This can be an issue with the USB port, or the drivers.
Is the hard drive a Power HDD ? that means it has 2 usb chords one for power and one for data transfer? coz those might not work with laptops, also has it ever worked with the laptop ?
Thanks

My Toshiba Satellite 2805 S301 USB 1 port, does not recognize my Passport external Hard disk drive. What can I do to solve this problem ? Thank you, very much for your assistance.

Hi

assuming that the external hard disk is usb

i would try this

plug in the external hard drive
then go to device manager
then hover your mouse at the top of the box
and look for a icon that says scan for new hardware
then hit the scan icon
your laptop may or maynot recognize the external hard drive at this stage
now leaving it plugged in restart the laptop
and with any luck windows will now recognize it

good luck
hope you get sorted with it

For some reason my CD/DVD player burner on my Toshiba A135 Laptop is not recognizing CD's or DVD's. I hear the drive spinning when I first install a disk but then nothing occurs. I ran a diagnostic on...

you might have accidentally uninstalled physically...
you also might have uninstalled the driver
you might have a virus
if you physically uninstalled it... physically reseat the burner...
if you uninstalled the driver...find the driver and reinstall it...
to check for virus get dr web cure IT and do a scan...
if that doesn't work call your pc tech support they will gladly help you...

Does the toshiba satellite a135 s2276 accomodate a second hard drive?

You won't find internal room to place a second hard drive, if that's what you're asking. Most laptops simply do not have the internal space, especially thin-line units.

What you could do for extra storage space is purchase an external drive.

New product not working

Make sure the usb port you plug the device in is active
Or search on the internet for the most update driver
External hard drives are plug_and_play so you don’t have to format them

I have a toshiba satellite a135 s2276. The usb ports are all enabled but it won't recognize any device plugged in Also when i boot up the screen is kinda pinkish in color then goes black. Everything works...

The problem is with your harware. Either there is some problem with your USB ports( Mother Board) or its due to conflicting drives. Reinstall all your USB port drivers.

No response from Toshiba Satellite A135-S4407

Yes, there is a very good chance your motherboard is bad. If you haven't already, please remove one of your two memory chips from the memory bank ( bottom of the laptop ), and try powering up again. Sometimes a bad or loose memory chip can cause a no post issue. If you're still having the same problem, then the only other piece of hardware in your laptop aside from the motherboard that can cause "no video" would be the cpu. Requires a complete tear down of laptop and a known good cpu to test. However, from my personal experiences the A100 series motherboards are notorious for having motherboard problems so it's most likely the motherboard. I can repair your laptop at a great price. External HDD

The answers are maybe, and yes.

If your internal hard drive is nearly full then adding an external hdd and transfering some of the files to it will free up space on your internal hdd and potentially improve performance.

You can install programs and store files on the external hdd. Obviously it will need to be connected in order to run these programs and access the files.
