Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer shuts off after about 10 minutes. Motor feels hot, real hot. I think it is overheating and shutting off. The lower the setting the longer it will run. Is it the Thermal fuse or thermostat?

There might be a problem with the bushing of the dryer motor that causes the rotor to become shorted with the magnetic field and that's the reason why it becomes too hot. It is also the reason why the thermostat shuts off the motor when it becomes too hot to avoid overheating. Replace the bushing of your motor.

I have a electric dryer when i turen it on it stays on for about 10 minutes and then it shuts off why is that

Try using low heat and see if it runs longer. In many cases, the motor is overheating and needs to be replaced. You should also check for lint buildup around the motor.

Maytag dryer se1000 runs for 15 minutes then shuts off

Clean your sensors if you have them. They might have junk on them that could be forming a moisture barrier preventing the sensors from feeling the wetness of them clothes. The dryer may think them clothes is dry because it cannot sense wetness.

The Dryer is starting, but shuts off after 10-15mins. It seems to be very hot. Is there an overheating element or something that can be easily replaced?

This certainly sounds like an overheating element. The problem is that the element is working. Something is allowing the element to get too hot. Then your over-limit switch is sensing the fire hazard and shutting down the system. Safety in action.
I suspect your blower fan is not running. This fan keeps the heating element from over heating by blowing the heat to the clothes in the drum. This is easily checked. The very next time you attempt to dry a load, start it and go to the exhaust vent outside. Put your hand close to it. See if it is blowing air or not. No air blowing = shut down in 10 minutes.
The blower motor should not be too hard to replace. Surely easier than the element itself. Before you pull the motor, use a multimeter to confirm that power is getting to the motor first. Power yes, motor running no, replace it.
Could also be something simple, like a wire broken or pulled off of the motor. That is why you check first. Good luck

Gas dryer get hot but than goes cold

This sounds like a problem with your fan motor. The dryer is getting too hot and the gas is shutting off until it cools down. That fan keeps the dryer cool by moving the heat to the clothes in the drum.
You can easily check this by feeling for air flow in front of the exhaust vent outside. No air movement = fan problem = heat shut off in 10 minutes. Good luck

Dryer runs for about 20 minutes when good and hot then shuts off.

suspect motor overheating and shutting down on thermal..if dryer does not have good air flow through vent to outside lint can accumilate around motor causing overheat and motor failure try cleaning around motor but i suspect it's too late damage has probably already been done

The motor is overheating and shutting down, cooling down, overheating again. Motors are expensive and tricky to install. PLEASE rate my solution as solved if you feel I answered your question accurately.. Thanx
