You can turn the self timer off the settings or you could pull the batteries out of the camera and that will reset it.

The flash is not working on my camera, just an orange light that seems to be (from a diagram) the self timer lamp or AF illuminator, what do I do?

Sounds like the charging capacitor on unit is defective and not taking a charge so as to fire the lamp when called for. Not the sort of job for a normal DIY'er. Best to take it in with the understanding that it could be an expensive proposition due to the high markup on the part and the labor involved.. Get an estimate first and be guided accordingly.

How do I set the timer?

Press the self-timer button. It's the bottom part of the cross-shaped button on the back, marked with a clock icon. Each press of the button cycles between ON and OFF.

After pressing the shutter release button completely, the self-timer lamp lights for approximately ten seconds, blinks for approximately two seconds, then the picture is taken.

To cancel the self-timer, press the button again.

The self-timer is automatically canceled after one shot.

Can't turn the flash off

Hi The product you have given has Built-in flash with Auto, Forced on, Red-eye on, and forced off (Red-eye reduction On or Off).
There is a 1 1/8" diameter lens with a built-in lens cover that automatically opens and closes when the on/off button is pressed. Above the lens is the viewfinder window, flash and tiny (almost unnoticeable) microphone. There is also a small circle that has three functions: the autofocus assist beam, red-eye reduction lamp, self-timer lamp. A wrist strap comes with the camera and attaches through a slot on the front of the camera near the side.
To the right of those buttons is the four-way controller, used for menu navigation as well as:
  • Up - Metering (Evaluative, center-weighted, spot)
  • Down - Drive (Single-shot, continuous, self-timer)
  • Left - Focus (Auto, macro, infinity)
  • Right - Flash (Auto w/redeye reduction, auto, flash on w/redeye reduction, flash on, flash off)

Timer?

There is a small round pushbutton on the top of the camera marked with a clock icon. Pressing this button engages self-timer mode. When the camera is in this mode pressing the shutter release starts a 10 second countdown. The camera will beep during the countdown if the beeper is enabled and the top-deck LCD displays the number of seconds left. Two seconds before the shot the camera will beep faster and the red-eye reduction lamp on the front of the camera will flash to warn you that the photo is about to be taken. You can cancel the timer at any point by switching the camera to another mode (or turning it off) before the picture is shot.
