Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDP02FR Built-in Dishwasher

Open Question

I have an older Kitchenaid dishwasher model KUDB220T and it is not getting the dishes clean. I noticed today that that the detergent was not even all disolved or washed away. I can't find the actual owner's manual. Is there anything I can do besides call a repairman?

SOURCE: dihes not clean

Run the unit with no soap, after about 5 min. of run time open door and check to see if water is clear or soapy,If soapy then you are having an oversudsng issue. When your washer gets to rinse cycle, your unit (if oversuding),will be rinsing with soapy water and the the drying cycle bakes the soap on dishes. You might be having a white film on your clear glasses.Cut down on soap especially if you have soft water.powder soap is best.Your dishwasher will fill , wash , the drain. Its what you put into it that will cause dishes not become clean.

Soap residue on glasses, dishes & flatware...what can I do..I use Cascade & JetDry

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Vinegar or lemon juice
  • Gel dishwasher detergent
  1. dishwashers have a rinse aid dispenser. If your dishwasher has this dispenser, fill it up periodically and it will release the appropriate amount of rinse aid automatically at the right time during the wash cycle. This will help your dishes rinse more cleanly.
  2. Rinse aid in solid form
Some older dishwashers or basic models do not have an automatic rinse aid dispenser. In this case, you can buy rinse aid in solid form that attaches to your dishwasher rack. Solid rinse aid can be hard to find in stores because it is not commonly used, but it can be purchased online.
  3. Vinegar or lemon juice
Appliance repairmen will tell you that one of the common problems they see with dishwashers is the buildup of excess detergent. If there is too much detergent in your dishwasher, your dishes will not rinse cleanly, no matter how good the dishwasher is or how much rinse aid you use. To clean the excess detergent that has built up inside your dishwasher, put 3 tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice (concentrate is fine) in the empty dishwasher and run the dishwasher through a complete cycle with no dishes. Do this twice, for two complete cycles of the empty dishwasher with only vinegar or lemon juice added. The acid in the vinegar or lemon juice will break up the detergent that has built up in your dishwasher's interior.

After you have cleaned the detergent buildup from the inside of your dishwasher, follow the steps below to keep the buildup from happening again and to help your dishes rinse cleanly and prevent residue from accumulating on the dishes.
  4. Gel dishwasher detergent
Switch to a liquid or gel dishwasher detergent. Any brand will do.
  5. Fill one compartment half full Dishwashers will effectively clean dishes with much less detergent than manufacturers often recommend. The bleach in the detergent, combined with the extremely hot water used in the dishwasher wash cycle, will clean and sanitize your dishes completely, even in small amounts, and using less detergent helps prevent buildup and residue from accumulating on your clean dishes.

Fill only one detergent compartment(the one that snaps closed) half full with gel detergent. Snap the opening closed and run your dishwasher as you normally would. Your dishes will come out sparkling clean with no buildup or residue, plus you'll save money by using less detergent!

White Film On Dishes In Dishwasher

Phosphate-Free Dishwasher Detergents May Cause White Film

Notice a white film or residue on your dishes, glassware, plastic items,

utensils and tub interior.

The problem is likely not the dishwasher's cleaning performance, but may be hard water

or phosphate-free detergents.

As of July 1, 2010 seventeen States* passed laws limiting the amount of phosphorous

(phosphates) in household dishwasher detergents to no more than 0.5 percent.

Previous detergents contained up to 8.7 percent. As a result, major manufacturers have

reformulated their dishwasher cleaning products.

Phosphates are mineral additives in detergents that act as the main cleaning agent helping

remove stains, break down grease and reduce spotting.

During washing, phosphates suspend food particles so they don't stick to dishes. Plus, they

soften water allowing suds to form for cleaning.

Phosphates have been limited in laundry detergents since 1994. Some of the dishes are not getting clean, and the detergent packet is not disolving.

Be sure you're not blocking the detergent dispenser with dishes or pots & pans. If blocked, it won't open and the detergent will not dissolve. Put smaller items closer to the dispenser.

Dishes do not clean

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.

If you are in an hard water zone , then try reducing the amount of detergent used and then try cleaning the dishes.

Streaks and smudges over dishes and cutlery after wash, even after hi-temp scub cycle on Kitchenaid model #KUDSO3LTSS2. Has been cleaned and no blockages found. Using Sunlight detergent

Im taking your word for it that it has been cleaned out and everything is working properly. If that is the case you need to make sure that you run hot water through the faucet everytime you start the dishwasher. Also make sure you are using rinse aid and I would highly recommend only using cascade detergents. Put four small glasses in top rack of dishwasher one in each corner facing up to catch water. Then start your dishwasher and make sure all glasses fill evenly. This will ensure the proper function of your upper spray arms.

Overnight, the dishes have a cloudy "scum" on them after washing

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

Sounds as though the heating/drying element or the controller has gone kaput... You will probably need it serviced.
