IMac G5 not connecting to Internet sometimes

Hi. I have an iMac G5 which I bought in June 2005. I am running OS 10.4.11.  My ISP is TimeWarner Roadrunner with a cable modem. Two months ago I began having problems connecting to the Internet. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. After many many phone conversations with tech support at Time Warner and Apple, 2 home visits from Time Warner with new cables and a new modem and a home visit from the Apple Repair Center with a new logic board, I still have the same problem. Some days it won't connect at all, some days it won't connect in the morning but will connect later in the day. When it won't connect, Network Status says the Built=In Ethernet is not plugged in. Adding to the problem is that my Apple Care ran out June 2 so now help from Apple Care and the repair place aren't offering much help at all even though the problem began mid-April. All I was offered was another new logic board  but to have it installed I could either drive an hour and 45 minutes to the repair place (there are only 2 Apple Repair Centers in North Carolina and that is the closest one) or the part could be sent to me and I can install it. I don't mind installing it if I knew that would actually solve the problem. Everything else on my computer works fine. I am sooooo frustrated. Can anybody help me please?

    1. No we're not using a wireless network, we have a cable modem
    2, I don't know the name of the ethernet card. Can you tell me where to find that info please?

    3. I do the regular Apple updates.



    The problem only happens when we turn the computer on.
    Last week we decided to stop shutting the computer down at night. We let it fall asleep then wake it back up in the morning and it stays connected to the Internet. Not a great solution but much better than we had.

    mines a 2004 but has exacly the same problem. sometimes it connects and sometimes it wont. but lately it hasnt been connecting at all. it has a cable but i know it isnt faulty because i tested it on another computer. unfortunenatly , the link that was provided wont open for some reason, can someone PLEASE give me instructions on how to fix it. it would be much appreciated.

    1) whether you are using a wireless network

    2) Whats the name of the ethernet card that you are using?

    3) Also have you updated anything on this system?

Getting a imac g5 all in one power pc 1.8 gb os x 10.3 computer. can i upgrade to snow leopard v 10.6.3 with disc ?


Unfortunately Snow Leopard requires a intel processor to work so the G5 imac will not be able to run the system.

I have a new imac running os x 10.6.1. my internet connection seems fine, but certain pages dont load and others run very slowly. any help would be much appriciated


You can try using a different web browser like Firefox or Thunderbird, both of which come with OS 10.6. Just copy & paste the URL into Firefox or Thunderbird to get to the same page.

Connecting external microphone to imac g5


Get yourself a great little gadget called iMic. It's a usb connector that adapts to let you used your headset mic and the mac system os will recognize it very well. Works good .
Costs about 24 bucks or so..

While trying to install OS10.5 and it will attempt to but it freezes, you the Apple booting circle it stops.


Probably the OS 10.5 version your're installing is not compatible or supported by the system motherboard of your computer model Apple Power Mac G5. per my research from Apple website herewith is their solution quote on what applicable OS to install for such model: "Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) and iMac G5 (iSight) models require Mac OS X 10.4.2 or later, you can t install Final Cut Pro 3.x or earlier versions on these computers. Final Cut Pro 3.x and earlier versions are not supported on any computer running Mac OS X 10.4". best regards

17" iMac quit working



Your Imac may be one of those affected by Apples purchase of inferior capacitators from Taiwan. If you are less than 3 years from the purchase date, apple will repair the problem for you for free. Just take the unit to your nearest local Apple Genius or tech. If you are outside of the repair extension guidelines, I have provided a link here which can show you or someone more skilled how to repair the problem. Ordering a new motherboard and power supply will set you back a lot of money, however the following guide and pdf give you step by step instructions on how to ressurrect your dead imac without speding more than $100.00. I was able to repair my imac using this guide and it was worth it to save a $2k computer that was only 3 1/2 years old. Check it out:

Where do I find the serial number of my iMac G5?
The 11-digit serial number is located on a label under the foot of the iMac G5. There is a bar code underneath the serial number.
To view the label, hold the sides of the iMac and gently lay the computer face down on a soft, clean towel or cloth.

IMac internet connection problem


Most likely you have a software problem with the OS X software itself, reinstall the OS it should take care of your problem.

iMac G5's cannot run windows alone, but older software can be purchased like Virtual PC to run windows on that unit.
