Question about kawasaki Garden

Open Question

Dear Sir/Madam, I have a Kawasaki Grass Trimmer model: TD-33, which I have problem to start, even though I try to change the spark plug many time. One thing I notice on the spark plug is that, when ever I removed from the hole, I notice the plug was wet at the contact lead. I suspected the Oil/Fuel ration is too tick, but on top of the filling cap, there is a ration stating 25 Gas/1 Oil. There is a spark generated when I test the plug out side. But the engine still can not started up. after so many time try. Pls advice and assist me to how to troubleshoot. Thank you very much. Rgds, Wong S.C.

First drain the fuel bowl. Any old fuel in there will keep it from starting. Fuel stabilizer is not what it's it cracked up to be. I've worked for 6yrs at a rental yard and had no luck with any fuel stabilizer, the fuel still went bad. If after you drain the fuel bowl it still will not start, you will need to clean the carb. Remove the carb and spray carb cleaner through all the accessible passages. If this does not do it, you will need to replace the carb. For long term storage I highly recommend draining all the fuel and filling just the carb with fuel stabilizer to keep gaskets moist. Then drain the carb when you take it out of storage.

It's your ignition, which you can take that stuff apart on the left hand side of the saw under the recoil. I have 2 of these, & you can get the parts. Maybe its just the magneto gap adjustment, which is like a business card or newspaper width gap. I would check that first. Hope this helps you, Rick

Two things which may be the problem: 1) carb need to be rebuilt or replaced, and 2) you need a new spark plug. The carb with shipping is around $50.00 from sears ( http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Grass-trimmer-weed-wacker-Parts/Model-3167918602008/0247/1503820/P0805032/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= ) A sparkplug can be had at any small engine repair shop and most auto parts stores for less than $5.00 Start with the cheap solution... Also make certain you have fresh gas and that the oil mix is correct.

Trimmer will only run in choke position

You have a few possibilities. Make sure you have good fresh gas in the tank. You're not getting enough gas, so choking helps get more gas than air, making it run better. Could be the carb diaphram (not very expensive if you replace yourself), when they get old they don't perform like they should. Could be the filter in the gas tank is bad, plugged. Also might be just an easy adjustment on the carb Low, and High speed screws. The choke has three positions, full choke, partial choke, and no choke, which means run position.

To make sure that you have the right plug, you need to specify the make and model number of your trimmer. The first thing you need to do is check and make sure you have spark to the plug.
Set the trimmer down.Take out the spark plug.Put the plug into the plug boot and set it on top of the motor.Make sure the switch is on,and pull the recoil a couple of times.Look at the end of the plug to see if you have spark, and make sure it is blue.
If you have spark, you might have a problem with your carburetor settings.

Grass trimmer will not start

check for spark, check that spark plug is not fouled or coated. Check to make sure gas is making it's way to carburator. Make sure fuel hose is not kinked.
If trimmer is not getting spark, the coil may need to be replaced or flywheel and coil contacts may need to be sanded, ligthly filed or use hemricloth
