Most washers have a small screen at the water inlet valve. They can be accessed simply by revoving the hose from the back side of the washer, using a small screw driver you can carefully remove the screens and clean them out under a faucet. That may be all that is wrong.

take hose and siphion the water out of the unit.run into pan on floor or outside if you have long enough hose. it will come out just get started by putting one end in water in tub and the other end outside or in tub or whatever and start suction on hose untill water comes out and let run untill all water is out of tub.

My Roper washer will run through wash cycle then stops. Nothing will work for 40 minutes then I can put it on rinse then the cycle will complete. What could cause the stopping with nothing working then...

It could be that the machine is trying to heat the water in the drum, but is not able to for some reason. The timer is waiting for the water to reach temperature before advancing. Posssibly a broken heating element. This can happen even on a cold cycle as most machines prefer to heat all soaping water to about 30C regardless of the temperature setting.

After working well for six months, my washer now expels water at random points during the wash and rinse cycles.

Check inside the fill hose for debris. There is a screen designed to block debris from getting inside the machine valve. If the screen builds up with debris the water slows down. Sounds like the water is filling too slow. Also the unit and/or the load may not be balanced causing it to stop and drain out. If it's okay then see what lights are blinking when these events occur and post here.

Washer washes fine and the water drains but will only spin if you mess with the clothes making them perfectly balanced or you hand start the spin. Roper

sounds like the spin basket drive.. does it agitate ok? if yes get a new washer or change or get a repair man to change the spin basket drive.

check the lid switch on the washer loosen the two screws on the control panel end caps pull the control panel slightly forward and tilt on its hinges then you will see a connector under the panel it has three wires one is gray one is green i think the other is tan unplug the connector and put a jumper wire from gray to tan to by pass the switch lower the control pane and start the washer to see if it continues if it does replace the lid switch
