You don't upgrade the bios of a computer. the bios is there to help if your computer is not working properly. it allows a way to access the components of a computer without going into the operating system of the pc.

What are the instructions for flashing BIOS?

Hello use auto detect here to find the right mainboard:

http://support.asus.com/download/options.aspx?SLanguage=en

Download asus update, this is the easyest program to upgrade the bios, while windows is running.

Install first asus update:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/ASUS-Update-Utility.shtml

When the mainboard is found, select download, and select your windows system.
Open the bios folder, and download the latest bios version.
Unzip the bios file.
Run asus update, and select update bios from file, and select the bios file, in the folder you just have downloaded ( the bin file )

Be very carefull when you upgrade the bios, because a power loss will damage the mainboard, while the upgrade process is running.

You also have to setup the bios settings, when the job is done.
You have to select F1 or F2 to enter the settings.

If any doubt download the manual.

Good luck

Bios Beep

Motherboard BIOS Recovery Jumper
  • Install the bootable BIOS upgrade disk which you previously created to do the original flash upgrade into drive A: and restart the system. If the update failed because you used the wrong BIOS update you should get the correct one and repeat this step. When the computer reboots there will most likely be no video prompts, however you can monitor this procedure using the floppy drive light and the PC speaker. When the PC speaker beeps and the floppy drive light is lit it means that it is currently copying the new BIOS onto the motherboard.
  • When the floppy drive light goes off and the PC speaker beeps (twice in most cases) the recovery should be complete. During the update procedure there might be pauses that looks like your computer is doing nothing, if so be sure to wait at least a minute to make sure the update is complete. When you are sure the BIOS update is complete and there is no more activity, power off the computer.
  • Change the jumper you changed before back into the original position so the computer can operate normally.
When you turn your computer back on your BIOS will be functional and you should be able to use your computer normally again.

Need updated bios for sony vaio vgn-nr160e/s

Hi danessta,

You can download the BIOS Update for the VGN-NR160E/S from the below link.

ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/PHBSYS-14612500-US.EXE

Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!

During the installation of this update:
  • Do not turn the computer off.
  • Do not allow the computer to enter Standby or Hibernation states.
  • Do not start other programs.
  • Do not connect any peripherals.
Also please make sure that you're installing the Update for the correctly Computer Model.

The Model # of the Computer can be confirmed from the System Information Window. To open the System Information window, open the Run window and type msinfo32. On the System Information Window, you can located the Model Number of the Computer next to the "System Model".

Good Luck!

Please post back if you require any further assistance.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Microsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computer?s random access memory (RAM). RAM is the main internal storage area...

What are you doing when this happens? It sounds like you will have to get a BIOS upgrade weather you like it or not. Visit the motherboard manufacturer's website and obtain the BIOS update from there.

COMPUTER BIOS NOT REBOOTING

First go into the BIOS setup screen and see iftyou can reset to the default values.
Upgrading a BIOS is risky for the very reason that happened to you. If anything goes wrong during the upgrade the it will have to be sent off and reprogramed.  If the BIOS setup screen did not work ,then your BIOS chip will now have to be reprogramed. That takes special equiptment. You wil either have to sent it off or I have seen places on the net to buy BIOS chips alread programmed. Do a serach for BIOS chips. They are removable from the holder.

Motherboard BIOS softwere for update

The process of upgrading the BIOS on a computer is also
called "FLASHING" the BIOS.

On very old computers (486 and older) the BIOS may be
permanently programmed into read-only memory chips,
which are not flash-able, although it may be possible to
replace the chips, or re-program them using special
equipment by a qualified technician.

On virtual all modern computers, the BIOS can be updated
using new data and a special FLASH program available via
download from the manufacturer.

This is a very dangerous procedure that can destroy the
motherboard if performed incorrectly, and should not be
performed unless absolutely necessary, such as when
you computer or software will not run properly without it.

Most mother board manufacturer's (for example Asus) offer
software patches and downloads on their web site, as well
as BIOS upgrades.

Note that the BIOS is 100% board specific, installing the wrong
BIOS can permanently destroy *********** board, so make sure
that you download the correct one for your board.

Once you have the downloaded the BIOS upgrade, there are 3
possibilities:

1) The downloaded file is self-installing, either from Windows,
or it creates a boot-able diskette, which in turn contains all
the files needed to update (FLASH) the BIOS.

2) The BIOS comes with a a separate installer (.exe) which
either runs from Windows or via a boot-able diskette.

3) The existing BIOS has a "built-in" flash utility, accessable
through the BIOS settings. This utility runs at a very low
level without any operating system to self-update the BIOS
from your download binary file, located on the hard drive or
on a diskette.

This is by far the best and safest way to do the job, but only
if your motherboard and (existing BIOS) has that capability.

===
In any event, the first step is to visit the manufacturer's WEB
site, then go to SUPPORT or DOWNLOADS.

Find the exact model and version number of you motherboard
in the manufacturer's list, and download the latest BIOS
update, and any installation (or flashing) utilities that come
with it.

1) Follow the manufacturer's instruction exactly !!!!

2) Do not turn off the computer until the BIOS update is
complete, and you are instructed to do so !!!

N.B.
The computer BIOS is the lowest level program on your PC,
without which the computer CANNOT read the disk drives or
perform the lowest necessary functions.

If the BIOS is damaged, or
If the wrong upgrade is installed, or
If the upgrade is performed incorrectly, or
If the upgrade is interrupted or crashes before finishing,

the computer may become unable to repair itself, and
the mother-board may become permanently unusable.

(This depends on the actual mother-board and BIOS design,
and on the damage done by the failed installation)

Good luck,
Please rate my answers,

Martin

Dead HLDS GWA-4164B HH 16X DVD+/-RW

Many of these drives don't work unless you have a non-microsoft CD and/or DVD burning software1.gif program. your drive may be configured for Windows XP instead of Vista (or vice versa) and therefore causes conflicts and won't work (I speak from experience). Many of these drives do not need drivers or software--they just need an appropriate CD/DVD burning program. I recommend downloading Belarc Advisor, a freeware program which not only tells you everything in your computer, with model numbers for hardware and all of your software ids, (with their unique codes), but will also inform you if you are missing any needed Windows updates. Once you know what burning software you have, check out updates from the software maufacturer. That might do the trick.
