Question about Admiral Refrigerators

1 Answer

Model HMG611390 serial #10812489UZ, the basket in the freezer was frozen to the bottom, so there was a leak somewhere in the freezer section. Do you have any idea where it may be and how to fix it?

The evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the inside of the freezer at the bottom of the rear cover.

Water in the bottom of my freezer freezes under the freezer baskets

. I am pretty sure you are having a defrost drain blockage problem. Most defrost every eight hours and over a period of time the drain line that comes down from freezer into a cup like object top middle and back of the fresh food section. If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down ther rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian He has been around a good bit and deserves credit for his contributions. Here is another way to make this look more si mple in clip below. TechnicianBrian.com And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! This is a common tip so I will be placing this post and add as we go new ideas listed in Sea Breeze Tips Section. Your model must also have an evaporator on the top section because if the fresh food section deli has water below the trays you either have a door seal leak allowing moisture in or the fresh food section evaporator drain is also blocked. I really think your defrost drain is blocked and now everytime your refrigerator goes into defrost the condensate remains inside your refrigerator. Click Here=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be Happening and read that page and then click here=> Leaking Refrigerators Read over all of the different ways leaks happenn and if this solution is helpful please rate the solution because I need all the rate's I can get. Ice builds up on floor of freezer apparently some leaking as my lamented floor is showing some damage. i have cut off water supply to icemaker and water tap thinking this was problem.

most likely you have a plugged and frozen defrost drain. check behind the bottom basket of your freezer section to confirm this you will find alot of ice build up. to repair you self:
  • unplug refrig.
  • unload freezer section
  • remove rear access cover (on jenn-air's there are 2 screws about mid way up they are painted white and arent very obvious).
  • clear all ice
  • flush drain hole with warm water. ( i use a turkey baster filled with hot water to get best results)
  • reassemble unit
  • reapply power
this should stop your water leak. thanks Peyton

Water is leaking out from the bottom of the freezer

Below the freezer coil is a drain trough. Sounds like it is frozen. Use a hair drier to melt it and poor baking soda with warm water down it.

My wife and I bought a Kenmore chest freezer (14.8 cubic foot) about 6 weeks ago. It is made by Frigidaire for Sears, and the model number is #253.165.42105, serial # WB94341279. It has been working OK. ...

This is well with in factory specifications. Hot air rises and cold air drops. Because a chest freezer does not have a fan to circulate the air it is normal for the basket to be warmer than the bottom of the freezer. The bottom of the freezer is used for food you want to keep for a longer period of time. What you store in the basket is food you will freeze for a short period of time. Ice cream should not be kept in the basket. As you fill your freezer with food you will find that the temperature will equal out because the frozen food will take up the place of the frozen air which will give you a more stable freezer temperature.
Try your test when you have it full of food.

Water Leak around left front wheel

I would check the defrost drain inside the freezer. this is real easy to do on this model refrig.
  • remove bottom basket (if it isnt frozen in place) and the shelf above it.
  • in th back just below the coil cover in the freezer section there is a ledge that will most likely be frozen over remove this ice using a hair dryer or hot water which ever is conveinant for you
  • you should uncover a drain hole flush this drain with hot water I use a turkey baster or large syringe to forcefully push water thru to clear anything in the drain
  • put it back together and you should be good to go
when ever the unit goes into defrost (which is about twice a day) the water runs over the ledge and then out of the door by the hinge puddling up next to the wheel. this unit has a hard fiberglass drain pan that is built in and unless it has been dropped i cant imagine the drain pan being damaged.
Let me know if you have any other questions Peyton
