Question about Sunbeam LowProfile Space Heater
CAVEAT: Messing with heaters can be dangerous, so it might be better to spend 30 bucks and buy a new one!I fixed the same heater, but this might apply to other Sunbeam models. Turns out that the blinking light is the overheat sensor, so it's good that it shut off, rather than catching fire.
My unit was overheating because the blower fan motor was gummed up, and not spinning. I tried to manually spin it, but it did not turn freely. I pulled out my Electronic Contact Cleaner made by PUREtronics, though likely any decent electronics contact cleaner will do. There are screws that hold the faceplate on, including one that is covered by the base. The base removes by pulling the the hook down gently with a screwdriver, then sliding it forward.
Make sure when you spray the motor that nothing is hot, otherwise the EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE contact cleaner could ignite. Before you do this, it's a good idea to use a toothbrush or other tool to get all the fuzz off the unit. There are two long screws that hold the motor on that can be removed to give better access to all of the motor, but probably not necessary.
Good luck, and be careful.
