Electrical zapping noise , tv turns off after starting

I have been hearing a zapping noise coming from my tv when i turned it on.
After awhile the tv would zap again and shut off and then turn back on a few moments later. Now the tv will not start up but i will still get the zapping if i try to turn it on. i took off the back panel and plugged it in, turned it on and their was a small fire and smoke and then the tv turned off. This was the zapping noise . i took the piece out that was causing the fire but i have no idea what it is. it is a small rectancle with numbers r73,.0087,h 2000vdc,kp,s9,qa20311. All numbers and letters are separated and in different places on the piece. the board has a burn mark on it from where it was removed. any help would be appreciated.

same problem same part....has anyone fixed theirs yet. mine has been down for quite some time but i have been hesitant to replace it just because i'm not sure that it is the only problem.

Mine was doing exactly the same thing, with the noise and turning off and restarting, but would eventuallly come on and work normally, sometimes would even start normally. Then one morning I turned it on and the picture would not come in, at the bottom of the screen was three semi-spheres, blue red and yellow, in the middle of the screen was a thick black line, and moving across the screen diagonally were several thin, wavy black lines, and the remainder of the screen was filled with tiny colored dots. This is when I unplugged it and returned to teeny vision (smaller tv from bedroom). Today I found this thread, sounded very familiar, took the back off the tv, found the suspect part, but I have no burn marks around it, or anywhere on any of the boards, so now I am completely lost again, and cannot afford a repairman, any help greatly appreciated - Thanks

does anyone know where you can buy a new one of these capacitors?

  • kysauter Apr 09, 2009

I'm having the exact same problem (only a ticking noise as i try to turn on the tv). For a while the tv would just shut off and now it wont come on anymore. Do you know how much it would cost to have my tv checked out and to have the parts replaced (circuit board and whatnot). I just might be better off buying a new tv....

got a d52w26 for free from craigslist as a project and found the board to be burned through in the same spot as everyone else. Either this is a weak spot electronically or as I'm guessing a bad design in the Circuit altogether. I replaced the whole deflection board and now I am blowing fuses. I figured out that the thing that causes the fuses to blow is when I hook up the large two prong yellow and green wires to the convergence p.s. that are parallel to the +300vdc output to the deflection board. I'm guessing that something is shorted in line with the CRT's but haven't dissected it enough to know for sure. The yellow and green are dead short to each other and the Red and blue are that hook into the deflection board near the Flyback.

Correction to my previous post. I said cp130 and meand CL031.

    thanks!

I have the same problem and finally figured it out today. I pulled the boards out and found the burnt hole on the bottom of the cp130. I have attached a pic of the burned area. Is that replaceable with how badly burnt the board is?

    Thanks!

I work in a TV repair shop and this is the second time I've seen this problem. The first time the customer did not approve the repair so I wasn't given the chance to properly troubleshoot it but it appears that CL031 burns a hole in the bottom of the circuit board usually do to a spike in voltage created by the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER (hv transformer) also check CP150 because it is probably also bad. Usually when the flyback goes bad it'll blow the Horizontal Output transisiter but in this case it does not. I pulled the board and havn't had a chance to put it back in yet but I'm going to replace CL031, CP150 and the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER and I'm reasonably confident this will fix the problem. If not the best course of action would be to order the whole board i.e. the DEFLECTION BOARD

I can hear a zapping noise.the front green display is not lit.

Most of the time a zapping or crackling sound is a bad electrical connection. I would check the connections were the power from the source is connected to the oven.

Went to turn on tv from the side button and loud zap noise and bad smell coming out!

you horizontal output transformer inside the unit has a high voltage leak.
if you know how to open the back cover. you can try to clean the dust buildup
inside and in the back of the tube check the unit if still produce bad smell.
if still zapping replace your high voltage transformer it may have a leak.

There is a humming noise coming from the trunk. If you hold the lines to the fuel pump, it isn't so bad. Don't think it is a wheel bearing. It starts when you turn on the car, then quits for awhile and...

THE NOISE YOU ARE HEARING IS THE ELECTRIC HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IN THE GAS TANK, THE NOISE IS CAUSED BY THE PUMPS ROTOR BEARINGS BEING EXCESSILY WORN, IT COULD STOP WORKING TODAY OR KEEP GOING FOR YEARS, BUT THE NOISE IS A WARNING THAT THE PUMP HAS A PROBLEM. I RECOMEND IF IT IS REALLY THAT NOISEY YOU HAVE IT REPLACED.

Makes a zapping noise when you turn on the electronic air cleaner

If the the "zapping" noise you hear is intermitant (like a Bug Zapper) it's probably dust that the air cleaner is picking up from the household air. .If that's the case, there's nothing to worry about, it's doing it's job.

If the "zapping" sound is continuous, then the unit may need cleaning, as it may be clogged with dust & lint.

"zapped" tv (dee7189)

I would need more details on this problem. Does the tv turn on? If so, what do you see on the screen? If you mean by "zapped" that the tv received a lightning strike and does not turn on, it's possible there are several damaged circuit board components. Depending on the severity of the strike, it's possible that just the fuse is blown. I need more details to advise further.
