Question about RCA D52W19 52" Rear Projection Television
I have been hearing a zapping noise coming from my tv when i turned it on.
After awhile the tv would zap again and shut off and then turn back on a few moments later. Now the tv will not start up but i will still get the zapping if i try to turn it on. i took off the back panel and plugged it in, turned it on and their was a small fire and smoke and then the tv turned off. This was the zapping noise . i took the piece out that was causing the fire but i have no idea what it is. it is a small rectancle with numbers r73,.0087,h 2000vdc,kp,s9,qa20311. All numbers and letters are separated and in different places on the piece. the board has a burn mark on it from where it was removed. any help would be appreciated.
Can you post a picture of it? It sounds like youre talking about a box capacitor.

I work in a TV repair shop and this is the second time I've seen this problem. The first time the customer did not approve the repair so I wasn't given the chance to properly troubleshoot it but it appears that CL031 burns a hole in the bottom of the circuit board usually do to a spike in voltage created by the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER (hv transformer) also check CP150 because it is probably also bad. Usually when the flyback goes bad it'll blow the Horizontal Output transisiter but in this case it does not. I pulled the board and havn't had a chance to put it back in yet but I'm going to replace CL031, CP150 and the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER and I'm reasonably confident this will fix the problem. If not the best course of action would be to order the whole board i.e. the DEFLECTION BOARD
