Same happened to our dryer yesterday. The only problem was the start/stop button was not making contact with the mini-switch. Used some hot glue under the lever that makes contact with the mini-switch. Put it back together and works great again. Saved about $260 on new control panel. Removing the control panel was pretty easy for a DIYer.

Unplug the dryer.

Remove the four screws that hold the panel in place. They will be hidden under caps on the housing, Pull off the panel. Be careful because wires will prevent you from pulling it entirely off but you can pull it from the right corner up and flip it on its back side to expose the back of the panel.

The white wire guard will have to be removed. The wire ties holding the wires to the guard will have to be removed by cutting the ties. Replacement wires ties can be purchased at any home improvement store. Remove the control panel by pushing the plastic clips in that hold it to the housing. There should be 6 and two plastic clips on the right center of the panel. If done right it will easily pull off. If force is needed one or more of the clips have not been disengaged. Do not force it because it is made of plastic and will break.

Once the control panel is removed from its housing, the start/stop button can be identified-last one either on the right or left (can't remember). When the button in the housing is pushed the arm under the button is not making contact with the mini-switch. I added a little hot glue to where the bottom of the button comes in contact with the arm. This will act as a shim and should fix the problem. I removed the arm to add the hot glue. It just pulls out. Reassemble the unit in reverse order. Be sure to reattach the wires to the wire guard so they do not end up getting ripped out by the moving drum.

Taking digital photos as you go will help in putting the control panel back in the housing and knowing where to reattach the wires to the wire guard.

Hope this helps. Good luck,

The dryer stopped working while in use. There is now no power going into the machine. It is a Bosch Maxx 7 dryer.

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

We have a wgd5300sqo dryer. It won't start. Was working yesterday when we cleaned out the lint traps and everything. Worked for a bit. Now won't start again. Not sure where to go from here

Plugged in, door closed at the way? These things don't usually break without a warning rumble. If it appears to be ok, I would call APPLIANCE SERVICE GUY.

My Whirlpool gas dryer is not working

Instructions

1
Check that the dryer door is closing completely. Remove anything that blocks the dryer door from closing.
2
Ensure the "Start" button is pressed firmly to start the dryer cycle, the dryer is not overloaded and the clothing is not balled up. Any of these things can prevent the dryer from operating and/or drying the clothes.

3
Use a level to confirm your Whirlpool dryer is sitting flatly and evenly on the ground. Adjust the dryer as necessary for it to be level as the dryer will vibrate and make unnecessary noise when sitting unevenly.
4
Examine the inside of the Whirlpool dryer drum and in the space around the drum for loose change, pens, hair ties and other items that could have been left in the pockets of clothing. These items will cause noise and potentially cause the dryer to become inoperable.
5
Examine the Whirlpool dryer's lint trap for excess lint. Remove any lint from the trap and place it back into position. Always clean the lint trap between dryer cycles. Inspect the area around the dryer and in the ventilation and exhaust systems. Remove any built up lint and clean the area thoroughly. Built up lint is a fire hazard and can cause operating issues.
6
Check the gas shutoff valve if your Whirlpool dryer is gas powered. Ensure the shutoff valve is turned all the way to the "On" position.
7Check the electric plug and ensure it fits securely in the outlet.
8
inspect both the fuse box and circuit breaker for any electrical problems. Replace any blown fuses, if necessary, and reset the circuit breaker if it has been tripp

Maytag Performa dryer blows fuse after clothes get hot. I cleaned a large buildup of lint from inside the dryer all the way to my roof. I then replaced the hi limit thermostat, thermal fuse and dryer...

Hello,
their are two possiblities causing that

1) while cleaning the lint from the motor a wire accidently got pulled of of the motor switch

2) to me the buzzing when start button is pushed and may or may not start, the motor is bad

When trying the trick to start the motor by hand the door switch also must be pressed in

Whirlpool dryer model LEQ8800JQ won't start when push start butto

I posted today (Jan 2, 2009) that I had same problem. Handyman tested for blown thermal fuse, etc and everything was fine. He said I have to replace the timer switch .. well guess what - I fidgeted with the start button (on/off) hard a few times while simultaneously pressing & releasing door switch and it did the trick. In my case the problem was most likely with the start button. Dryer is working fine now!

The door is not compltely closing. Make sure to push it in hard around the clasp areas. If yours has a light, the light should turn off and on as you open and close the door.

Won't work at all,

Hi Lanil,

The only things that will not allow the dryer to start are the following:
  1. I know you said you checked the breakers, but they could be the cause.
  2. The Child bouncing on the doorcould have broken the stub stub that pushes the door switch in.
  3. You may need to firmly press the Start switch.
  4. The dryer need to be plugged in, I know you checked it.
These are the four main things. Since the child bounced on the door, the trouble is most likely with the door switch. Try to use a stick or something to simulate the door closing and activate the switch and push the start button. If this starts the Dryer, and closing the door firmly does not, then the switches position or doors prod that pokes the switch, is not lined up or failiing to fully activate the door switch.
