    How much is expensive?

This s not a cheap projector to just find one used.

  • dogs28 Nov 09, 2010

It doesn't make sense to me that once the filters start to fade the projector is no good.

I paid 1400 5 years ago and the cheapest one I have seen used is 675.

    How much approx to fix?

I have seen this problem occur due to dust obstructing the flow of light(from the lamp) from reaching the panel and lens. The dust may render the filters ineffective. If you can just take the cover off and blow a can of compressed air, it will most likely resolve your problem.

This is usually caused by the colour filters in the unit "burning out". Filters in the projector are basically polarizing glass tinted to red, green and blue. In time the heat given of by the lamp "fades" the tint similar to sunlight fading fabric and other materials. The filters can be replaced but they can be very expensive, sometimes more than the projector is worth. One thing a lot of people do is buy a second hand unit that has a lamp that has come to the end of its life. You will find that people do not want to spend out on a new lamp which can also be very expensive so they put the projector up for sale on places like ebay. Usually projectors with no lamps sell quite cheaply and you may find you are able to just swap your lamp to that projector and end up with a fully working one. This is probably the cheapest option in your case.

I hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

How do I get rid of this one vertical white line on my toshiba TDP-S8

take the cover off, disconnect the the connection on the rear of the lens assy from the main board, clean with an approved electronics cleaner and then reconnect. Sometimes this fixes the problem. If it doesn't, then the DMD on the rear of the lens assy is bad or the main board is bad. Hard to tell without a test fixture.

TV picture is red.

Normal color picture is composed with 3 colors R-G-B (Red-Green-Blue). Picture turns Red means: Missing Green and Blue colors (many reasons: bad contacts, projector tubes dead, and other...). Try to give some "tabs" to diagnose ... I don't know what is the type of your Projection TV, how long you owned it, to have more idea.

You have a projection light element out. I had the green element go on mine. I had a service agreement so a repair tech changed it.

Too much green color

Problem solved. I tried playing DVD and the TV picture was fine. So I double-checked cable wires from cable box - one of the wires was loose (obviously it was the red color input). After tightening, the TV picture is good as new.

NEC MT800 Projector with Vertical Lines in picture

The ghosting problem is a combination of both the lcds and driver boards in which case neither need to be truely replaced.. They use a specific voltage to transmit data to the lcds.. Each lcd is different and the driver board is programmed by the factory for the EE v.com setting. Unfortunatly with nec, they do not offer a service mode to go in and adjust the ee settings to correct the electrical convergance. So the only way to fix the problem is to replace the lcd with a newer one who wasnt worn out from long term heat.

Hi there

Have you tried using another input like the Component instead of the DVI. See if it makes any difference.

If not it could be the DMD or your Mainboard.

Most of the time it is the Mainboard - Home Theatre Projectors come out with awesome DMD's , so I doubt it to be the problem.

Hope this is usefull !
