SOURCE: Dropping Feed dogs on kenmore model 19233

Remove extension table/accessory box by gentle pulling it away from machine. You are left with just the free arm. In the back of the free arm, lower left corner, you will fine the feed dog lever. Push the leaver to the right to lower the feed dog.Instructions for lowering and raising the feed dog are on page 48 of your owner's manual. Good luck!

Pull out the removable table and you will see the drop down feed dogs switch lever behind the back of the machine. Move that lever to the left or right to have feed dogs go back to normal sewing mode OR for embroidery mode.

SOURCE: Are pfaff 1475cd sewing feet compatible with pfaff 1151 machine

Hi. Some Pfaff machines have something called an "IDT" which looks rather like a small, black walking foot behind the pressure foot, to help feed the fabric evenly. Pfaff machines with this IDT need "IDT" pressure feet. (I can't find a listing of which machines have this and which don't, so you'll have to look at your machines or check your manuals.) If both machines have the IDT, then the feet are compatible. If neither has the IDT, then the feet are also compatible.

Hope this helps!

Happy Sewing,

Robbie

How do I set 8900 for free motion quilting? D4S mode and QB-S foot

To do free motion quilting on most machines, install a darning foot or free motion quilting foot, drop the feed dogs, set the machine to straight stitch. (Because FMQ requires you to manually maneuver the fabric, stitch length is moot.) If your machine has the feature, setting it to Needle Down will also help. When you stop sewing, the needle will stop while penetrating the fabric. This prevents you from accidentally moving the fabric while trying to adjust before sewing again.

Is there a setting to quilt freehand?

Are you asking about free motion quilting (FMQ)?

If so, you need a darning foot of some type (a foot that does not press the fabric to the sewing surface).

You need to drop the feed dogs (or if your machine does not have that capability, a feed dog cover that probably came with your machine and set the stitch length to zero).

Then, add lots of PRACTICE!!! I like to draw designs on a white board with an erasable white board marker... The more fluid you can become, the better experience you will have with FMQ.

Singer model no 9022 feeder feet does not move material thread bunges under material

Check that the stitch length is set high enough that the feed dogs will actually advance the fabric. Setting the stitch length too low will cause the machine to basically sew in place.

Also, check that the feed dogs have not been "dropped" to allow darning or free motion quilting. Dropping the feed dogs lowers them so they will not rise above the needleplate and will not grip nor move the fabric.

If your machine is mechanical (not computerized), it may need a good cleaning and oiling. If the old oil has solidified, it could be preventing the feed dogs from moving like they should.

My sewing machine wont RUN. The needle goes up and down but the material wont move along.

under the foot around the needle, there should be two rows of what look like teeth, these pull the material through and there will be an adjustment mechanism on the machine. Try leaving the foot up while you run the machine, you should see the teeth going up and down; if they are it is most likely just a case of setting up the amount of pull. I think it is adjusted with the wheel that sets the length of stitch.

Feed dogs will not engage. What to do?

Are the feed dogs in the raised position and not dropped for darning for free motion quilting? Is the stitch length set to somewhere between 10 to 12 stitches per inch? If the stitch length is set too close to zero, the feed dogs will barely move the fabric causing it sew in the same spot.

Pfaff free motion sewing

Ok.. first understand that free motion is just that.... there will not be a perfect stitch length... You are the regulator of that as you move the hoop. You'll need to practice. There are some good videos on youtube on this.

Can I do free motion sewing on a Kenmore Ultra Stitch 12? Model 158 1595281 serial #31011208

If you can lower or disengage the feed dogs you can stitch free motion.

If the the feed dogs cannot be adjusted as described, you can set the stitch length to zero.

You can also tape an index card over the feed dogs and punch a hole where the needle needs to enter the needle/face plate.

A darning or free motion foot is needed.

Take a presser foot with you when shopping for the foot as it is important to match the shank length.

Newer sewing machines are low shank and the older ones long shank.

You can also order online at Clotilde (see "which foot to use" for a guide).
