Most RCA repairs on your chassis series require a new IHVT,
AKA flyback transformer . Inside an Integrated HVT are diodes
that can degrade and give the appearance of a bad cap....
Of course, you should check the electrolytics with an ESR
meter, just in case....
Followed Terryfic's solution. I am a DIYer and managed to order the part, desolder the old one and solder in the new one. However, when I turned it back on I got a black screen with sound. Hmmm, saw the adjustment screws but was hesitant. Ended up turning about 10 degrees one way and presto chango... Saved a $1200 upgrade to HD for a $30 part! Thanks
It sounds like your TV has a Pincushion problem based on your post/description.
There is a big chance that this is just a colder solder/loose connection but of course an on-site diagnosis would be better.
Since this involve opening the unit and working on the electronics inside, I would suggest that you seek the services of a qualified TV professional.
