Question about D-Link DI-514 / DWL-520 Kit (di-514/dwl-520-k)

1 Answer

Internet via another computer's DSL

Is there a way that I can access the internet from my laptop (came with wireless) to my desktop (with DI-514/DWL-520 wireless router and card) with DSL? When I try IE from the laptop, it gives me a connection problem. If I run diagnostics on it it gives me a choice of wireless or ethernet connection. Since both are used to access the internet, I chose to run both and have a lovely printout which probably tells somebody something.

I am also having problems saving and accessing files from one to the other. The two are talking to each other, but when I go to save I get a message saying "make sure disc is not full or write protected and that file is not in use." I suspect there is some sharing setting that I need to tweak.

You advised me "to make sure first that your laptop is connected to your wireless router's network because that the only way you can use internet access and access file on your laptop using the router."
Isn't this the same as seeing that the wireless network is connected? Am I missing a step somewhere?

Ok so your computer says conencted to wireless network,
Check if the pc is getting a valid ip address follow this Click start>RUN>type CMD>click OK>then type ipconfig you should be getting a 192..x.x.x if you're getting a 169.x.x.x ir means that you're really not connected to your wireless network, if there's a wireless security enable on your network make sure you have the correct key.
