Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

3 Answers

I have had this router for 6+ years with no problems, but in the last week the router disconnects me from the internet 3 times an hour. Is the router just getting old or is there something I can do?

Check your router's logs and the transceiver statistics, If your Upstream or Downstream Attenuation is really high (50+) you may have problems in your Phone line. I'm assuming your router has the DSL Transceiver built in, but if that is not the case, Plug directly into your DSL modem and check the statistics on it, you can typically access either one from the address 192.168.1.1.

Try to update firmware. If that failed and problem continue, new router is very much in order.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You could try a firmware update, if this is no better it may be time to ask your ISP for new router.

Reset the modem while the router is plugged into it. Do this by disconnecting the power to the modem and then reconnecting.

ADSL Dropping on DSL-G604T

You can try something to narrow down where the problem is. Plug your pc directly into your modem and unplug your router altogether. This will not allow you to use you other computers on the internet. Don't worry you only have to do this for 4 or 5 hours. If the pc remains on net and you have no glitches then you might want to think about getting a new router. Since the router worked fine for 8 months, I wouldn't think the settings got changed. Routers aren't perfect pieces of equipment, I have had to purchase 3 in 4 years.
