Hi,

Ive just reinstalled windows xp and the keyboard and mouse are not responding so i cant access desktpo at all

Hi.

If both the keyboard and mouse are USB connections then you will have to wait a couple of minutes for the operating system to install the drivers for them, just keep on wiggling the mouse until the cursor moves.

If that does not work please post back.

Regards.

HP Pavillion dv1000 with Windows Xp will not startup

Remove the hard drive from the laptop and install it into a desktop computer as a "slave".

If the hard drive is a SATA type, you will need a desktop that has SATA hook ups. If the hard drive is IDE, you will need a very cheap adapter (under $10) to convert the pins to what a desktop computer can use. The link below is where I would buy it if you can not find a local computer shop that has one for sale.

Once it is in a desktop, you can access it and grab any files you want/need very easily.

Once you have your files backed up, reinstall windows after you reinstall the hard drive back into the laptop.

If you poked around for a few hours, you might get lucky and find what is causing your blank desktop, but the odds are that you are having more than one problem causing all your issues. A reinstall would fix them all and give you a working computer again with no problems/lag.

Mouse Cursor Frozen

Try putting the computer into safe mode by shutting down the computer. Turn the computer back on. At beginning of the boot process press and hold the f8 button and select safe mode from the menu.

When the safe mode is done booting up, try moving the mouse around. If it works, restart the the computer under normal Windows startup procedures.
