Question about HP Pavilion A1050y (PU131AV) PC Desktop

2 Answers

HHHHHEEEELLLLPPP!!!!!!! Ok so I thought it wouldn't be a problem to install more RAM on my computer. lol it turns out I was obviously wrong. So  I plugged the cords back in inside the tower and outside. The PC instantly turned on when I plugged in the main power cord. That's obviously not right. Additionally, it appears as though there was nothing plugged in, the monitor stays blank- as though on standby, since the amber light stays on. Does anyone have any ideas? Please! This problem is so tiresome! THANK YOU!

HP Pavilion a1050y (PU131AV) CTO Desktop PC is the complete title of my model..
it's an older one but it does good. As far as the ram is concerned, I removed it because
I realized it was doing more harm to the computer than good. As a matter of fact it
was hard to get it out of the slot because it was hot, which makes me think the
computer was going into overdrive trying to accomidate the new memory card.
Anyway, I'm using Windows XP home edition to answer your question. I just
want to get it running like it used to.

Thank you I had a feeling it had something to do with something on the circuit board... but just to be safe... when you say "the jumper next to the battery" You mean the yellow knob right? I just want to double check and be sure before I go and completely screw myself over.

The memory you installed was causing a NO-POST. The fact that it heated up indicated that it was either installed wrong, was the wrong RAM, or was faulty.

You can get the correct RAM here:

http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20a1050y%20Series

When installing RAM, it should be in matched pairs.

  1. 1st power off the system
  2. Unplug the power then press and hold the power button on the tower to release any power stored in the motherbroad.
  3. Move the locking levers back on the slots, align the slot(s) in the RAM with the keys in the slots, then press RAM into slot FIRMLY until locking levers snap UP into place without being touched.
  4. Connect power and power on system.

Take that memory card out.. KILL the bios. place the jumper next to the battery from position 1-2 to 2-3 .. attempt to turn the machine 2-3 times.. put the jumper back, turn the pc back on.

you probably have a bad memory stick.

Acer desktp internal ram installation needed

I'm a bit confused....did you have all four of these in the ACER and are trying to put the 2x1GB into the Emachine? And that the 2x1 GB wouldn't work in the Emachine but they did in the ACER and that the 2x512 Acer cards worked in the emachine?

If that is what happened here is my best guess. The ACER MOBO will support 533/667/800 MHZ DDR2 RAM. The Emachine will only support 533 RAM. Iys possible the 2x1GB are either 667 or 800 MHZ and are not compatible with the Emachine but will work in the ACER.

I have a Dell GX620 that I rescycled. It wouldn't power up so I put in a different power source and put in 1 - 512 stick of memory. It then started up and I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed...

just leave in one of the new 1gb stick of memory
if stable memory was the issue so add the back one at a time each time shut down install turn on test
if still unstable coould be the hard drive

I need to add memory module to my Dell desktop computer. I bought a 256MB Memory Module from Dell but it did not come with any instructions.

ok. which model ram you purchased. For installation of ram there is no instructions. Open cpu and put the ram in empty ram slot. Put in right direction because if you try to put in wrong direction it wont set because that small cutting in ram is help to set proper way. try it otherwise call any technician for help.

Dell Inspiron 530 mobo dead, beeps 2x, no video fans ok

The two beep code means no memory was detected. This might mean bad memory, memory that's loose in its socket, or a system board problem.

Make sure all the memory is firmly seated and latched into the sockets.

If you have only one RAM module installed, try substituting a known good part of the same type to see if the trouble clears up. If the memory still isn't detected you'll need a new motherboard.

If you have more than one RAM module, try them one at a time to see if you can isolate which is causing the trouble. (Testing the motherboard with known good memory is always a good thing to try. I have seen computers where all three RAM sticks were bad at one time, so I wrongly thought the motherboard was at fault. I always keep some good memory around for testing now.)

Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

I am trying to get my cousins acer x1200 going he put a new hard drive in it because he thought his old one stopped working it wouldn?t boot up into window it would boot up until it got to windows then...

Hi,

Error Stop 0x0000007B can be related to viruses, hardware failure or a device driver issue.

Lets try this :--

Step 1- Insert windows XP disk and try to get into recovery console.(Can follow instruction displayed on the
screen)
Step2 - Once you login to recovery console, run chkdsk /p followed by chkdsk /r.
Exit the command prompt after chkdsk /r completes and restart your computer and see if that works,.

Step 3 - If it doesnt, try running a repair installation with windows XP.

Step 4 - Insert the windows XP disk, press enter to continue setup followed by press R for repair.

Step 5 - Let repair installation complete and restart your machine to check status of your computer.

Hope it helps !
Thanks

I have a computer with an intel al440lx motherboard, pentium 2 processor w/mmx, ATI rage 3d graphics card ,creative sound blaster pci sound card, 7GB quantum HDD and 40GB seagate HDD and 1.024 GB SDRAM...

Hi,
This is not a software problem. The problem lies in the motherboard.

The motherboard which you are using is an AL440LX motherboard which supports a maximum of 384MB of RAM. The computer will not recognize any more RAM. In order to use 384MB, you will have to add a 128MB RAM along with the 256MB already present and not any more !!
This is the solution !!

Adding RAM

before you buy this memory stick (ram) you should have check the specifications of this ram memory, they should be the same specs, the cast latency might be different and with different brand. how about if you remove all this ram memory and use only this KVR133X64C3/256, if this works then do not install the other 2
