We have had the Duet front load for 4 years but now every once in a while the washer smells like rotten eggs-I have never had this problem before..any suggestions of how to rid this problem-not temporarily but forever! Any details you can offer would be wonderful-thank you!!!!!!!

Some other websites say that it has to do with the drum below the spinning drum which has water resting in it and washing vinegar thru it will only solve it temporaily-but instead I am supposed to take the front of the washer off and clean/empty out that lower drum...does this make sense? All the details I can get from you would be great-thanks again to all of you!

Hi, the smell of rotten eggs normally means you have some water that has been sitting arround awhile and has gone bad. You may have to unplug your machine and remove the front cover to take a look arround the inside of your machine to see if any water has leaked out and has puddled up. You may also have something caught in the drain pump's filter, which may have gone rotten from sitting around too long. This filter is easy to unscrew and gain access to once you have the front cover off. Make sure you have lots of towels or a wet vac handy when you unscrew the filter cover.
Using vinegar will only take the odour away for sometimes, so the proper way is to follow the above instruction....

I hate to say it but you cant stop it forever, what you can do to limit it is 1. When done doing wash for the day wipe out the door gasket and make sure no water is still in it. 2. Run a empty load set to haot wash with 3-4 cups of white vinager in the dispencer 3.Leave the door open a little when not in use so It can air out

Top load washer smells like rotten eggs when water is draining into tub

As someone who has had a deep well drilled and found water, but water contaminated with iron and sulfur, I can tell you first hand about the rotten egg smell. The water softener will remove the iron that can turn clothes orange, but doesn't do anything to remove the rotten egg odor. You will need a charcoal (carbon) water filter to eliminate the sulfur smell.

The washing machine smells like rotten eggs on the rinse cycle. The clothes also smell afterwards as well. What can I do to resolve this?

Rotten egg stench is caused by sulphur content in the water or building up over time in your water heater. It can also build in a water system that is rarely run. Have you noticed this smell from other taps in your house? There are inline charcoal filters that can remove it from the water, or you can also try removing the water lines from the washer and running them awhile.

Is this new, or has it been happening for awhile?

Terrible smell during washing cycle!

I am not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year old
man who has been making his own repairs for about
50 years. Therefore the washer ID doesn't mean
much to me. It's been about 55 years since I had
experience with front load washers. However I can
suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where
they have very good trouble shooting and repair
information on front loaders. I think you'll find what
you need there. Good luck with it.

Laundry room smells like rotten eggs

Does the sewer drain line have a trap at the bottom that prevents sewer gas from entering the room? If the smell seems to be coming from the washer itself, run a wash cycle empty with a cup of baking soda, detergent and hot water to clean the interior.

Rotten Egg Smell

Make sure the rubber door gasket is clean. Pull it back and clean under and around it. The gasket will collect dirt and begin to mildew causing various odors. Run the machine empty, boil a medium pot of water to almost boiling, then put it in the machine during the wash cycle. This will help clean the lines, during the rinse cycle place a 1/2 cup of vinegar in the unit. Make sure you are using HE detergent. 1-2 tablespoons will due. If your using liquid fabric softner, dilute it by half. These machine use less water than a typical top loader and can't dissolve regular detergent effectively. There by causing your lines to get clogged with gunk.

Rotten Egg Smell

Repair man told me this is common with front load washers. I was told to put Sunlight dish washing detergent (for dishwashers not hands) in the machine (about 1/2 cup) and do a hot wash with the machine empty.
