Question about Magellan eXplorist 100 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Hi I've had my explorist 100 for a few years now and absolutely love it. I use it out on the water and had all my fishing marks stored in it and also when hunting in the bush. Last night when I turned it on I noticed that the batteries in it had only about 1/4 charge so I switched it off and changed batteries, when I switched it back on a message come up that I have never seen before that said 'burn in' do not disturb, I waited 10-15mins and nothing happened so I turned it off when I turned it on again this morning all my waypoints have been deleted. Is there any way of retrieving them back or resetting my GPS back to a point as I did not go in and delete any myself and desperately need these waypoints.

Unfortunately when you delete waypoints on this unit, they are gone. As well this unit is not designed to connect to a pc to back up waypoints. The only thing you can do is write down the cords.

I am sorry there is no way to "Undelete" waypoints on the machine.

The \'burn in\' do not disturb message apears when the unit detects an internal error. Most likely with the memory. It may have crashed while preforming the test, or not finished it. At any rate you would have most likely lost your waypoints even if you let it finish because if there is a problem with the memory you will always loose some of, if not all of the stored info.

I've purchased an Eagle 320 fishfinder 2 years ago and I've had to replace my transducer twice. Every time I'm out fishing lakers in 50 to 100 feet of water, I keep loosing the bottom mark and...

I have never heard of Eagle Fishfinders, but I would be inclined to package it up and send it back to them for checking under warranty, with a fault that should never happen. The brand leaders are Lowrance and Humminbird, with Garmin in 3rd place.

I have a Humminbird 998HD with Side Imaging. I had a 798SI before that and never a problem. the 998 cost me nearly 2 grand Canadian and is used on Lake Ontario, twice a week every week from May to October, and has been faultless. The 798 was used from 2008 to 2014 and also faultless. I think you have a 'Friday Special'.

Need new screen for magellon explorist 100 gps

My recommendation would be simply to replace entire unit unless you have experience fixing electronics.

Jeff, I had the same problem with my explorist 500. Your unit lost the "BASEMAP.MGI " file. You will need to get a copy of that file. Then install it.
Try this site http://imhz.com/2006/05/my-explorist-is-screwed.html
(I would recomend all explorist GPS owners copy and save that file and store it in a safe place. I have mine on a thumb drive).

Replacement keypad membrane

If you look on magellan website it states they no longer have or support replacement parts for older gps models.
You can find an explorist for parts on ebay.
I own a explorist 100, 400, 500. I believe the key pads are all the same. If you can not find one, I will sell you the pad from the explorist 100 for 30 dollars plus shipping.

Year old explorist 100 doesn't work anymore

Even though your sister has lost the receipt, many stores have the ability to look up purchases at the store provided she used a credit card. You can not do this over the phone. You will need to have your sister go to the store and ask them to look up her purchase with her credit card. If it is a recent purchase and still within the product warranty you may be able to get a replacement. Good luck.
