Two possibilities--one, the engine is flooded and the spark plug needs to be removed, then open the throttle and pull the engine through smartly several times to expel excess fuel. Check the air cleaner for plugging. Second, the engine may have been run without oil in the fuel which will result in the piston /ring(s) scoring itself and the cylinder wall severely. Remove the muffler and watch the piston as it travels the cylinder while pulling the engine through slowly. Any heavy scoring will necessitate replacement of the cylinder, piston, and ring(s)--an expensive process if you farm it out. Hope this helps!

Pull rope on troybuilt pw wont pull out or pulls hard when trying to start it, i pulled plug and it pulls fine, put it back in and it pulls hard again if at all, can you help me out?

On some pressure washers the engine will be hard to pull start if there is pressure in the hose. Release the pressure in the hose by squeezing the wand trigger, then try starting the engine. Also If you had it running and then stopped it, you need to release the hose pressure again to have an easy time of pull starting it. This is what I have to do with mine once the pump is primed and before starting it up. I hope it's as simple as this. If not it could be an engine problem of some sort.

Hope this helps. :)

I have a Briggs & Stratton 5500 watts generator that I hardly pull the rope for start, begins stuck then its loosen again and again gets too hard to pull, any suggestions please help

If the unit is older it could have heavy carbon in the cylinder heads, it could be a ring sticking and binding, do a compression test. Compression is high or mechanical binding.

My Homelight 26b MightyLite leaf blower is so hard to pull start I have to put my foot on it to steady it. I pulled the spark plug and now it pulls so easily I can pull the start just holding the uni

Compression is what makes it hard to pull start.
It should be like that.
Try holding the Draw/Pull Cord tight to your stomach and push the Blower away from you.
Kind of like throwing the blower down & away, but holding on to it.
That might be easier than pulling the cord and will save your arm.
Good luck !

I have a honda gx 390 that kicks back when i pull the rope to start

The ignition timing may be too advanced . Some times if the pull start rope is not pulled hard enough it will kick back, The ignition fires just before top dead center , if not pulled hard enough it will kick back.

Ignition timing set

The flywheels are keyed on the Husqvarna chainsaws, there is not way to change the timing. I would suspect you may have some carbon build up causing the hard start. Is the saw hard to pull over with plug removed?

My stihl 041 saw very old made in germany farmboss but very low hours on it. will pop and smoke a little but not start. When I pull on the starter and it almost starts it gets very hard to pull on rope -...

Answer to 2 year old question about hard starting saw. There is a seal that goes bad and leaks chain oil into the crankcase. This will make it very hard or impossible to pull the starter rope. To start the saw, pull the spark plug, stand the saw on it's end so the bar is pointed up and pull the rope 10-15 times. Replace the spark plug and start. It will smoke for a while. To stop this from happening, always store the saw with the bar pointed straight down.

Hard to start, following the starting prosedure shown on the top of the blower it requires 10 real hard pulls to get it to start

If you are having to pull that many times something is wrong. It should only take about two or three pulls to get it started. Prime, choke and pull one time than that the choke off and pull again. it should start.
It may have some parts loose that may need to be looked at by a shop.
Good day.

Brand new sears 2 cycle gas trimmer is very very hard to start . When you finally get it started and it runs for a while, it will restart easier.

Do you mean hard to start as in you have to pull and pull to get it started or do you mean hard to start as in tough to pull? If you have to pull and pull then the carb screws (gas and air) need to be adjusted. Start by turning them all the way in and the a turn and a fourth turn out and adjust from there. If you mean just tough to pull, the some newer weedeaters have lots of compression and since they come from the factory this way it can't be changed. It will always be tough to start.

Yardbroom II pull start hard to pull

put a teaspoon of mix oil into the spark plug hole, some times the metal starts to bind in the engine. keep the wire off and the plug in and pull the cord a bunch of times until it starts to get easier, if you need to add more mix directly to the hole then do it. hope this helps
