Question about Kodak EasyShare C340 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Sdhc memory card

My camera tells me that my 4gb pny sdhc card is "unusable." i'm assuming that this means either hc cards can't be used or 4gb cards have too much storage space, or both. if any or all of these are true, please let me know what card is usuable, and what is the size limit, if any. thanks,

ed

The new SDHC cards must be used on newer devices that support the HC technology... I almost bought the 4 GB SDHC card becasue it was a great price... the asked a few questions and found out my camera less than a year old would not support it.

I have inserted a new PNY optima SC HC memory card and window in camera says "memory card error". Does the canon not take this card?

Correct. The A510 uses SD cards, not SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work.

Have a Kodak EasyShare C743, bought a SanDisk, won't format

Your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, your camera can only use standard SD cards, those usually 2GB or less. An SDHC card will not be recognized properly by your camera. If you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for SD and "non hc", with the non hc in quotes. Believe that Transcend makes one.

Loaded new memory card, and screen reads memory card error-memory card locked. Removed new card from camera, nnlocked card, inserted card again, but received same message. Please advise.

I'm guessing you bought a new 4GB SDHC card. Although it looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. If your camera is more than a few couple years old, it's likely it was designed before the SDHC format came out. Sorry, but a SDHC card will not work with older cameras.
For older cameras, you'll need to use standard SD cards (usually those 2GB or less). But if you really want to use a 4GB card, do a Google search for 4GB SD "non HC", with the non HC in quotes. Believe Transcend makes one.

My canon sd600 is not reading PNY sdhc memory card. msg says card is locked. it's clearly not locked

HC or High Capacity is not compatible with this camera. You have to buy a memory card which says only "SD" and NOT "SDHC". Cards of 2Gb and less are usually "SD". Cards of 8Gb and more are always "SDHC" for technical reasons. Cards of 4Gb can be either, but the SDHC kind are much more common, because they're cheaper and newer.
