Many years ago I was called to a house in the countryside because their TV wouldn't work. I arrived to discover that the TV looked perfect on the outside but when I removed the rear cover, there was no copper track left anywhere, just components on a bare pcboard. The aerial lead was without a copper conductor and the mains lead thee same. That was a direct hit.
I was called to another set with the condition of dead set. There was no external or indeed internal damage but the electrical surge has damaged the power supply. I repaired the power supply to find a line timebase fault. I repaired that to find a problem with the tuner, I wrote the set off to insurance as a total loss.
One can never tell what or indeed where the damage is with this sort of problem.
Hope that helps and stops you getting a large bill for a repair that may fail again.

Lightning hit near house tv will not power on can it be repaired

Many things can happen when a power surge comes into your home. In the best cases, the fuse in the TV may be the only thing to replace. And in other cases the surge can travel inside of the TV to literally explode transistors, varistors , and bulge capacitors. In some cases the internal TV will look fine (still not power up). This is why you take your TV to a service center for a diagnostic check. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

My parents think that there house got hit by lightning and now this TV (347H E10839) doesnt turn on, any sudjestions??

If you don't get a lioght on the front of the set at all then you need to remove the back and see if the fuse is blown, and if it is ok, then leave you set unplug for 40 min, and try again, the TV pocessor could be locked up do to the power surge and that will reeset it back to normal.

We had a lightning strike which hit the house phone wire and knocked it out. the tv and dvd player didn't get hit. we turn the dvd player on it plays but no picture. the input button on remote won't switch...

Check the TV internal fuse. If fuse is OK check the SMPS. Lightning damage could harm any part and step by step only it can be found.
If you have insurance for your TV and other appliances, you can claim.

Better contact the authorised service provider for assitance.

Philips 29 inch tv down due to lighting

yes of course it can, you just need to wein a lottery!

It is difficult to say how mucg damage the lightning did. If its just the power supplym anywhere from $200-500 if the spike went further than the intenal fuses and power supply ( fuses after the supply) you may need to mortgage the house. However most times this can be claimed as fusion on your insurance policy. Check whether lightning damage is covered. If not don't mention it just plead ignorance and say it just stopped working after it was turned off.

TV won't turn on

It may be too late for this advice, but if you live in a lightning prone area, you should consider having a 'whole house surge protector' installed.
The cost should be well under $300 (a lot less if you install it) and with the included insurance (most often for $25,000) it is a good investment.

If your house was struck, I'm surprised you don't have a list of things that no longer work.
It could just be an expired TV.

TV Turns off on its own

Just keep smack'in it around, it works for me. It is the 'protection overload circuit' taking over and shutting the TV set off. This is because it detected a short or near-short circuit somewhere. Most common is high voltage, deflection amplifiers and main power supply. It's pretty much a common fix for an experienced tv repairman. It might set me back in the ballpark of $200 - $300.
