There is no need to ask for a username or password. Just log in the settings' page for your Linksys with your browser (typically it's http://192.168.1.1), provide the username and password to connect with the router and make the settings you like for the Wi-Fi name at WLAN SSID section and the password you like at the security section. At the end hit apply (or save). I advice you to make all these settings while you are connected with an ethernet cable at your Linksys, to avoid being locked out in case of a problem.

RE INSTALL 2.4 GHz WIRELESS-G BROADBAND ROUTER .CANNOT RECALL PASSWORD CANNOT COMPLETE SET UP>?????? JERRY HELP. [email protected]

Perform a hard reset by inserting a paperclip into the reset hole while powering up. To access the router use address http://192.168.1.1
On older LinkSys routers, the username is set to blank and the password is set to "admin" (without the quotes). On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin".

I have an unsecured Linksys wireless set up installed. How can I go back and make it secure?

Hi jenkinsbebeg,

There's a possibilty that you will get an unstable connection due to unsecured Linksys setup. Poeple around you can pick up your network easily and could eat up your bandwith. So it is highly recommended to set up a security on your router. There are several options on how to set up or configure your router. You can use the setup wizard or by opening your web browser.

Here are some steps on how to set up your router using your web browser:

1. Open your web browser ( Internet Explorer, Mozilla ).

2. Now enter the the following URL: http://192.168.1.1

3. Enter your Username and Password.

common username and password for linksys:
--> username blank, password "admin"
--> username "admin", password blank
--> username "admin", password "admin"

4. You need to connect to the internet then click "internet setup".

5. From the drop down menu select DHCP for cable modems, and for DSL modems please select "PPPOE".

6. Now set the SSID (Service Set Identifier) to identify your network name. You could also change the password from here.

7. At this point you can encrypt your wireless connection using the WEP ( Wireless Encryption Protocol ) or WPA. If you will be using the WEP just go under " wireless security" option, then enter your preferred password (passphrase) then click on "generate".

From here you should now be able to connect to your router using your preferred password.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I need to stop others outside using my internet

you need to turn on password based encryption (aka security) that will turn your unsecured wireless network into a secured one.
open a browser window and then type http://192.168.1.0 or http://192.168.1.1 and enter your router settings. change settings including password. unless you've set it up differently and actually have a username and password, leave the username space blank and use "admin" as the password. that's often the default password on a linksys. linksys has a great support page. they have the drivers, manuals, the works.
your specific page for the drivers and the manual for your router which includes specific info including password, setup procedures, explanation of the various settings, how to do a hard factory reset, etc. is here http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WET54G - click on the download button below the picture

I want to security enable my wireless internet

What you are asking about is called Wep security and is available in your router control panel ("http://" whatever your router is set to) then go to wireless>security and setup a Wep key. You can also go to this web page for more info:
