Question about Makita 10" Miter Saw LS1030N

1 Answer

Hi all I have a Makita LS1013 that I got from a friend. I am trying to repair the switches in the handle as they are blown. I have the replacement parts I need to do the job. However someone seems to have already tried to repair it and they didn't leave the wiring as they found in inside the handle. All I need as an electronic diagram of the circuit or a picture of how it should be wired correctly. I would be grateful for any help!

Gdoran681, The information I sent you should have the wiring you will need. Let me know if you have just the LS1013 or if it has the lights on it (LS1013FL)

Not a good idea. Miter saw are too dangerous to be altering them in any way.

Makita LS1013 110V feels underpowered. What could have caused this? Brushes are barely worn.

How underpowered? running at half speed? If so check the wiring in the 110v plug. I have seen saws come into the workshop where 1 of the wires is connected to earth pin this results in 55v being fed to saw hence 1/2 speed. Is there heavy arcing at the commutator? if yes armature probably blown. If not still worth examining armature for discolouration, examine field coils at same time if everything seems ok then a possibility is the controller. You could try by passing the controller and if saw seems to run better then you know you need a new controller. It is located at the back of the motor. If you are not sure about electrics do not try this you may electrocute your self or blow the controller.

You will need to lock, the spindle, and use a puller, and maybe even heat to get it apart depending on how worn damage etc?

My Makita ls1013 has been having a problem running. It is not turning on at all. I just replaced the switch and it is still not working, I have checked and there is power to the switch. Please help

I would unplug tool and check the condition of the brushes. If they are worn excessively or burnt the tool won't work. Let me know what you find and I will try and help more.

How do I remove the threaded rod from beneath the turn table of a Mikita LS1013 Slide Compound Mitre Saw ? I have removed the two black turning/tightning handles but cannot see how the rod is removed.

if you removed the handle from the rod you would need to put a pair of pliers on it gently and remove it. or if you turn it upside down and remove the tube from sliding mechanism you can grip the rod from there and unscrew

MOTOR IS NOT WORKING

You could try blowing some compressed air into the area around the switch and see if it helps.
Otherwise, it's most likely the cord or the switch.
Can you check to see that you actually have power to the switch. If yes, and you feel adventurous, then first remove the blade, then bypass the switch, (using a power strip as a cord switch) to check to see that the motor works, in which case it must be the switch...they do go out.

Brand new miter saw/ran for 10 hours power was not consistent, then nothing

What part of the motor has blown? There is the armature and field coil and they won't always need replacing at the same time. There are brushes as-well, but as they are quite cheap I'm guessing you have been quoted on one or both of the motor parts to be replaced. Have you asked the repair guys for a report. They should be able to suggest a reason for what has blown and why by looking at the faulty parts. Although most manufacturers and service agents have discretion over warranty claims, if your machine is more than a few months over htere is almost definately noting you can do on the warranty side of things.
