You have three components which could be faulty: Computer, cable and monitor. Replace them one by one until you find out which one is giving you trouble:
  1. Hook up a portable computer to the monitor, using the same cable
  2. Same thing, only with a friend's cable that is known to work
  3. Try using the cable to hook up a friend's computer and monitor
  4. Take your monitor to your friend's house and see whether it works there
  5. Try using any other source of image, check the back of your monitor to learn what else you can plug, other than a computer
Each combination you try will give you more information, until you have enough data to isolate the problem. It *could* be that your computer's resolution is not supported by the monitor, but I doubt it.

A friend who went overseas gave me this type C593. When I tried to hook it up it says no sync. He did not have the manual anymore and could not get hold of my friend to ask how it works, so I ask your...

No sync could mean the computer is generating signal at a frequency that cannot be supported by the monitor. As soon as Windows starts to boot, press F8 to display the boot menu. One of the choices will be VGA mode. Select it, boot into Windows, then set your resolution/refresh low. Reboot into normal Windows mode. If you now get display, then set the resolution/frequency to your liking (as long as supported by your monitor).

It is likely that the monitor in question does not support the video settings you currently have your graphics card or chipset set to.

If you are using Windows XP reboot your system hitting <F8> until a menu appears to select a mode to start XP in. Choose "Standard VGA". This should resolve the immediate problem.

Since you don't mention the model number of the monitor in question I couldn't look up the supported screen resolutions for you but right clicking an empty space on the screen and selecting "properties" should bring up the video settings dialog box where you can try various screen resolution settings [rebooting each time] until you find one you like that works with the monitor.

Screen not working

Kim,

Another user posted a similar question which I've answered here:

Your computer's display resolution may have changed since your first use which will cause this poor monitor not to work.

Hope that helps.

Dell 17" lcd manufactured 2004 CN-0F5035-64180-48G-1X2S wont turn on. power button flashes green, no display will come on. can i get a repleacement from dell? i bought it from a friend.

Dell will not give you a replacment since you were not the one whom purchased it...if you were they would only give you one if it was still under warranty.

Can you try hooking it upto another tower to see if the monitor is at fault and not the PC.

Did you friend show you that it was running before you bought it. Perhaps he sold you a monitor that was about hit the end.

Cannot run a monitor on Aser Aspire SA80

Try pressing the F8 key when the computer starts to boot up. When you get to the safe mode screen, select Enable VGA mode. Evidently your friend's monitor can support resolutions and/or refresh rates that yours does not. Oh and one more thing, please rate this solution with a fixya rating. Thanks!

Proview PRO576 error message "mode not supported" and will show nothing else

Okay, we got a fix by having another monitor hooked up to our computer and going in to display and changing the display settings to a lower setting. The screen resolution - turn it to lower - I guess somehow - the setting was too high for our monitor. Don't know how it changed itself though. Anyway, change it to a lower resolution then re-hook up your monitor and see if it works. The reslution can be pushed back up until you notice the problem again.
