Welcome to FixYa! on the list below is the steps to oil your sewing machine.

  1. Remove the screw from the top of the Janome face plate with a small flathead screwdriver. The face plate is on the top of the sewing machine directly above the needle.

  2. Pull the face plate up and away from the sewing machine gently.

  3. Face the sewing machine as if you were about to start sewing.

  4. Locate a small cylinder attached to the side of the sewing machine facing you that had been covered by the face plate. Apply one or two drops of oil to the top of this cylinder.

  5. Locate a small square that is directly above the needle of the machine, also previous hidden by the face plate. Apply one or two drops of oil directly above and below this square.

  6. Replace the face plate and tighten the screw.

  7. Open the hook cover of the sewing machine as if you were changing the bobbin. This area is located directly under the needle.

  8. Remove the bobbin case by grasping the lever on the case and gently pulling the case out from the machine.

  9. Remove the hook ring and the hook. These two parts are behind the bobbin case and should come out easily.

  10. Apply one drop of oil to the center of the hole the bobbin was removed from.

  11. Replace all of the parts you removed from the sewing machine.

Good luck

These new machines do not need to be oiled as everything is sealed. Owners manual and users manual are the same.
Make sure you clean beneath the sewing plate and the bobbin area with a small vacuum cleaner never blow air into the machine. Get the small dental brushes to get into small areas to pull lint out that the vacuum cleaner can not get to. Hope this helps

How do I oil a Kenmore 385 sewing machine

Are these the pictures you have?

KENMORE 385 12612090 Owner Manual Oiling The Machine Oil The Underside

Something you can do is slightly wiggle the handwheel (do not turn it in reverse). The handwheel should always turn toward you.
Look at the pictures and watch where metal rubs on metal that might match the picture and apply one drop of fresh, good quality sewing machine oil.

Where should I oil my unidentified sewing machine?

Sharon, some machines don't require oiling.
You should read the machine's manual to double check.
Or you could check the machine's manufacture on-line.
Oiling a non-oiled machine can cause all kinds of problems.

What about Oiling?

If you look at the Oiling Instructions in the owner's manual, it has a picture of where the oil should be applied. Only one or two drops!! It should probably be oiled frequently--about every 8 hours of sewing time. Pfaff probably sells a sewing machine oil for your machine. Just tell them your machine model and they should know what you need. Do NOT use 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or the old stinky brown stuff from grandma's sewing basket!

Where to oil Singer fashion model 1036

Consult your owner's manual and oil according to the instructions. Use only fresh oil recommended by the manufacturer and apply 1-2 drops each place specified in the manual. Over-oiling or oiling in the wrong place can damage the machine.

You can find an owner's manual here:

Page 57 states that the machine does not require oiling, but based on it's age, I'll bet it could use some oil. With older mechanical machines, I generally recommend using ONLY fresh good quality sewing machine oil. (BTW, the top of your machine should open.) Then I hand rotate the handwheel slowly toward yourself, watch where metal rubs on metal and apply 1-2 drops of oil. If you can find oil ports, they could probably use a drop or two also. Do NOT oil plastic gears, cams or belts. Be sure to oil the moving parts inside the free arm too. And, move the selectors/levers, watch where they move and apply 1-2 drops (just avoid the plastic parts). A common oiling point on most machines, including the newer computerized versions, remove the bobbin shuttle, apply a drop to the outer edge of the shuttle and lightly spread it around the edge.

FWIW, I did read somewhere that the plastic gears and belt tend to be the weak points on these machines (which is common for a lot of machines from this period) and that it could be an expensive repair.

Hope this helps.

How do I treat my empisal overlocker

Consult your owner's manual maintenance section. Be SURE to clean the lint and thread pieces frequently (at least at the end of every sewing project) from your serger as this will help reduce wear and tear on your machine and make your sewing experience more pleasant. Use ONLY good quality sewing machine oil if the instructions include oiling procedures. Oil frequently to keep the machine operating at its premium level.

If you need an owner's manual, search the internet for:
Manufacturer + Model + the word "Manual"

Where do I put oil in Esante ESe Baby Lock?

one drop on the needle bar after every 8 hours of sewing, and anywhere metal rubs on metal. But this will only get you so far. the shafts will also need to be oiled and this should be done by a technician as it requires complete disassembly of the machine.
