Its some issues with the 3rd party programs on the computer.
Try doing a system restore.
If that doesnt work, save all your datas and reinstall your Operating System.

My vaio turns on but wont boot up model is a vgnnr17g

Hello,

Try booting it up to safe mode. Just keep tapping F8 to go to the options where you can select safe mode. After that, use your keyboard to select safe mode. If it goes to safe mode, restore it to a date when your computer was still working fine.

To do the system restore, do the following:

Start or pearl button (click) > Accessories > system tools > system restore .

If you can't boot via F8, then use the Operating System's Disc that came with your computer when you bought it. Turn on your computer with the disc inside it. Follow the onscreen instructions and do a repair in the operating system.

I hope this helps.

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Note: With some computers, if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.

Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.

Please select an option:

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Windows is not booting properly.

Hi, Thanks for using fixya.

You need to go into detail we can't read minds. What happens when you try to start the computer? Are there any messages?

In the mean time here is somthing you can try. Start the computer, when you see the splash screen tap the f-8 key (most computers) f-1 dell f2-hp. Use the arrow up key choose safe mode. While in safe mode click on start all programs-programs, accessories system tools- system restore. Then restore it back to the date when your computer booted up properly.

My computer will turn on go thru all the motions like it is working it says windowsxp then goes to welcome screen then goes to my screen it wont show any programs or the start

It seems the Explorer.exe is not running properly or isn't loading. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (when it shows nothing on the screen) on the keyboard, the Task Manger will pop up, click "File" and select "New Task (Run)" and type in "explorer.exe" (without quotes), wait for few seconds, it should open up all the features properly, if this fails, go into Safe Mode and try again. To go into Safe Mode, restart the computer and keep tapping the F8 button on the keyboard until you see the Advanced Boot Options with Safe Mode as one of the options. Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys on the keyboard and press enter, you will see white texts in the black screen, wait until you see a warning to confirm whether you want to boot into Safe Mode or not, give a positive input and proceed forward, once windows is loaded, you better run a full system virus scan or I would also recommend System Restore.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

How do you put windows into safe mode?

Power on or Restart your computer, keep tapping F8 on the keyboard while it boots up. After few seconds, you'll be taken to the "Advanced Boot Options" with "Safe Mode" in the lists. Use the Up-Down arrow keys to highlight the "Safe Mode" and press enter on the keyboard to confirm the selected boot options. Black Screen with white texts will be displayed on the display, wait for few seconds until you see the windows logon Screen. You'll also see a confirmation message box asking you to confirm to boot into Safe Mode, click "yes" or "Ok" and proceed forward. There now you are in the Safe Mode.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like it very well may be a hard drive issue. Have you tried booting to safe mode?

This can be done by pressing [F8] when the computer is powered on and selecting "Safe Mode" from the menu;

Replaced hard drive now computer wont boot

If you have a restore CD/DVD that came with your Toshiba, you may have to use it to reformat your hard drive and do a fresh installation. You may have a bad sector or cluster and the boot file is located on it. Try this and check the bios for the setting of your hard disk too. Try starting the system on safe mode by pressing F8 at boot time.

Computer boot up

There is either a problem with the graphics driver not starting properly or the boot.ini file of the operating system is corrupt. First thing to try is press F8 on boot up and this will take you into safe mode, if prompted for a password just press 'enter' When in safe mode highlight the line 'Last known good configuration' and press enter for a reboot, if all boots ok then it should be right. If still no screen, press F8 again on next boot up and this time select boot windows in safe mode and if it boots ok, there maybe a graphics fault or a driver error for something that starts on boot up, as in safe mode only the minimal drivers start (hence safe mode). If you get into safe mode first, right click my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager, then go down the hardware list to graphics adapter, and click on '+' sign to your adapter, right click on line and select uninstall. Restart the pc then it will be automatically installed again and the drivers loaded. If you are still unable to boot then it is a process of ilimination to find what is causing the problem, but it will more than likely after trying the above be a windows system file error and require you to use your XP disc for a system repair.
