SOURCE: NTC cover message after replacing fuse

The "negative temperature coeffecient" (NTC) thermistor was left unplugged after reassembly or it is defective.

It is the hood thermistor, and should be plugged into connector P4 on the circuit board.

I think it should be at the bottom of the board, on a little tongue-like protrusion, as shown in the attached photo.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you don't find yours, or if you want to look at it without disassembling the oven, you can download it here (just enter your model number).

You can also find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Whirlpool mircowave model MH3184XP the display reads F2

There is a problem with the control pad. The membrane, or surface, of the pad may be broken or damaged somewhere, resulting in the F2 error code. This is common for Whirlpool microwaves.

Press "Stop/Cancel" twice and select a new cook program. Press "Start" to begin.

If the error code persists, press "Stop/Cancel" again and unplug the microwave. Wait several minutes and plug it in. If the F2 code appears again, it requires repair.

Replacement membranes can be found online

but the internals of a microwave are dangerous, having high voltages even when unplugged. With the cost of parts and labour from a service tech, you may be best buying a new oven.

Microwave says NCT is open

That would probably be "NTC", which stands for "negative temperature coefficient", which is just a fancy name for a thermistor.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

There should be a technical sheet hidden behind the grille or controller. It will show you where components are located and how to test them.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

This is a known problem with this unit, and whirlpool has put out a Service Flash out on this. The reason this is happening is Electrical circuit interruption between the L1 and Neutral in the microwave invert circuit. This has to be addressed by a Tech.

I keep getting a beep then (NTC open call for service) in the window. What is NTC and what would cause this message? My microwave hood combination Model#MH2175xst-o is working fine except for the...

It's a "thermistor", a type of temperature sensor.

NTC stands for negative temperature coefficient. When the temperature goes up, its resistance goes down, telling the controller the temperature.

Yours has failed and needs to be replaced.
