Question about ASUS Eee 900 Netbook

2 Answers

My Asus Eee PC 900 has 2 solid state drives, C and D. C is too full to defrag it whereas D has 5.2GB free. I have already put my data (docs and photos) on D. What else can I move? Or can I remove the distinction between C and D by joining them?

Thanks. I have previously cleared out most of my stuff, the problem is with Windows- eg the update to SP3.

Can I reinstall my programs, such as Corel PaintShop Pro on D drive?

  • jonkil22 Nov 10, 2010

Thanks. I'll do that. When I have done the defrag, will it be OK to install Paint Shop on the D drive, because C is rather full?

Yes, thanks for this, very helpful.
    I'll proceed with caution!

Hey,

Your computer has 1 drive, that is partitioned into two partitions 1 and 2 in your case C and D.

You can not easily change or combine these two drives, you need to copy all the content from the D drive to a external hard drive. then you would need to use a software made for this job.

I personally would do this by using a external CD drive to start up a linux operating system called Ubuntu and run a Gparted program to delete the partition 2 (d) all data is lost. And then resize partition C to contain all the space available.

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

seems like gparted has its own live cd.

Now that is faily complicated job to do. If you want to do it in windows you have to purchase a special program made for windows, they are never free. And well, this is an advaced operation that normal computer users never do.

Here is one software for the task that you can use in windows
http://www.partition-tool.com/easeus-partition-manager/help/resizing-and-moving-partition.htm

Gparted might cause issues if you decide to go that way and you would need to have your windows disc with you for possible repairs.

The things that you can do here is to clear up some more space from the C drive, make sure your Recycle bin is empty because that can still use the space of those items that are still there and then also if possible for you to remove some software that you don't really use to free up some space or those program that you can reinstall later.

Yes you can uninstall that and even uninstall the sp3 update and just reinstall it after the defrag on your system.

Asus Eeepc901. I have run out of space on the C

Hi, with so much space taken up on the (C: Drive), it would be best to (Backup) the drive. In this case, an external Hard Drive may be the ideal solution. If you have a lot of Data / Media: Movies, Music etc, this store a lot of a (Space) on the drive. Thanks paul7of9

Always need disk cleanup

Open up the Computer icon and right-click on your c: drive. Then click on Properties, then on Disk Cleanup. Once this has completed, you might want to run Defrag as well, in Tools, then Defrag, then Defrag Now. You might also think about Drive Compression too, to make more effective drive room.

How to load new ssd for eee pc

By SSD I assume you are refering to a Solid State Drive to replace your existing hard drive. If this is the case you need to install the drive and then boot off the CD that came with your computer and reinstall the operating system. Note that all you old info will still be on the original hard drive but you can still access it by purchasing a 2.5 inch USB hard drive enclosure. When you plug it into a USB port it will be detected as a second hard drive.
