Question about Frigidaire FRS26H5AS Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My Frigidaire FRS6R35W0 refrigerator has ice in the bottom of the freezer. I took the back pane off and the evaporator drip pan was ful of Ice. I melted all the ice but water would not drain out the drip pan. It felt like there was a mechanical blockage , not ice. Is there a valve on the bottom of the drip pan.

Good day,
Keep pouring hot water into the drain hole. It can build up quite a way down. Be patient.
If no joy, service techs use a compressed air tank with a hose and adapter inserted into the hose where it terminates in the drain pan. If you have access to something similair then use it, but use very little pressure to prevent damage.
If not you will have to improvise. A tire pump with a short piece of 1/4" tubing inserted into the end of the hose will usually work.

Jack, I had the model number wrong. It should have been FRS6HR35KW0. The wiring diagram shows a wire going to drain trough with something with "MMM" on it. Therefore I assumed there might be a valve on the drain. Am I wrong? I stuck a small screw drive down in the drain hole, and it did not feel like it was hitting ice but something harder than ice.t

    Good day,
I'm sorry but I don't come up with anything on your specific model. It could be an anti-syphon device of some sort, but I'm just guessing. My suggestion is to one, repost it or take the complete model number with you to a local appliance parts house that sells Frigidaire parts.
The will have a complete breakdown of your machine and should be able to solve your issue.
Sorry I took up your time.

the drip pan is usually on top of the compressor or has a draw underneath with a coil to create heat for evaporation of water from the drip pan. Some time a rodent can drown in this location.

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you have any other question. My Kenmore refridgerator with freezer on bottom leaks water from bottom and I have ice build up in freezer and it's suppose to be a frost free freezer?

I had the same problem with my refrigerator/ bottom freezer. It is a Kenmore and would build up ice in the bottom and would eventually drip water on the floor in front of the bottom drawer. I solved the problem by doing a few different things. First I took off the back cover to see where the drip pan was located. Look for the drain tube that goes into the drip pan and in my case cut two plastic ties to gain a better angle for my next steps. I took a turkey baster and a cup of hot water and shot it in the drain tube several different times. Then I took a string trimmer line (pretty thick) and pushed that into the drain tube as far as I could get it and worked it back and forth. My final step was to blow air into the drain tube in towards the freezer at which point I could hear the ice in the icemaker blowing around. The following day the water was draining into the drip pan and not into the bottom of my freezer :>)

Frigidaire bottom freezer building up ice. Where

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

Ice forms on the bottom of the freezer and water leaks on the floor water to the ice maker was turned off and that did not solve the problem.

Assuming that this is a self-defrosting freezer (which almost all are today), the defrosting coil or the timer may be bad. The defrosting coil actually warms up the freezer slightly every X hours. This thaws the ice that starts to form in the freezer. The vapor is then evaporated and exists out through a drip tube to the bottom of the freezer/fridge into a pan. The pan usually has the compressor fan blowing over it to evaporate the contents.

Water in refridgerator interior

You have a plugged drain in the freezer. Unplug and remove back panel in freezer. Under the evaporator there will be ice, thaw with hairdryer or steamer. There is a hole under the ice, that is the drain. Flush with hot water until it drains into outer pan. It may take awhile to get drain cleared.

Bottom of freezer has water dripping into it

A bad freezer door seal causes condensation that freezes at the bottom of the unit. I realize you said the drip pan was full of ice, but if the drain is clogged, that will happen. If that unit has the pan at the very bottom, condensation can also contribute to this.

Freezer icing every 3 weeks

you have aclogged drain. remove the panel in the back of the freezer that exposes the evaporator you will want to shut the unit off too. next remove as much ice from the pan as possoble. use a hair dryer to help get the big stuff loose. now you will want very hot water and pour it in the drain pan. your going to make a mess at frist but you need to do it untill the ice in the drain is melted and the water will flow into the drip pan. make sure you cloan all the food drbris also. after it is clear put the back on and turn the unit back on. you will not get any more ice buildup as long as it stays unclogged. and the ice is from the defrosting of the evaporator.

Rita, your drain hole is frozen over and when your refer goes into defrost the water is running out into the cabinet instead of down the drain hole. Remove the evaporator cover and poor some boiling water in the evaporator drip pan. This should melt the ice and clear the drain hole....Catriver...post back.
