Hoover steam vac all terrain turbine gear assembly

Hello,

I'd be happy to walk you through this repair. Unfortunately this is a very common problem with the Hoover SteamVacs.

Here's what you'll need to complete this repair:
- Hoover Turbine Assembly For Model F5866-900 Part # 43191001 or 90001354
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Flat Head Screwdriver

Step 1. Remove both the clean solution, and the dirty solution tanks from the machine, and press the handle release pedal so that the handle is laying down flat:

f9817d2.jpg
Step 2. With a flat head screwdriver, pry off the rotating brush speed indicator knob:

55c72db.jpg
Step 3. Unscrew the silver screw that's at the very top of the see thru suction port where the dirty solution tank rests.

91c5d91.jpg
Step 4. Turn the SteamVac upside down so that the brushes are facing upwards. There are four clips that hold these brushes in place. You'll need to remove the brushes from the machine by squeezing the four tabs while pulling upwards at the same time. The picture actually only shows the two tabs on the right hand side being squeezed, but the tabs on the left hand side are in the exact same location:

903753e.jpg
Step 5. Once you've removed the brush block from the machine, there are 4 screws on the bottom that need to be removed. Keep the two silver screws on the very corner in place, you won't need to remove these. Remove the four screws that I've highlighted in red:

8f04e58.jpg
Step 6. Turn the machine back over right side up, so that the brushes are on the bottom. There are two clips that hold the top housing in place. Insert your flat head screwdriver in between the top and lower housing in the rear of the machine close to the rear wheels, and pry upwards to unclip these clips on both the left and right sides, then remove the top motor housing from the machine.

19c46e5.jpg
Step 7. You'll now have complete access to the turbine. Remove the two silver screws in the front of the unit that hold the turbine in place, as well as remove the front hose from the turbine:

9f8ce8d.jpg
Step 8. Once you have removed the two screws you'll be able to lift the turbine up. There's a second hose in the rear of the turbine that you'll also need to remove before you can remove the turbine completely. After you've removed the hose, take the turbine out of the machine. You'll notice to the immediate left of the turbine other hoses that connect to a black circular part. This is actually the pump that sprays the water on the floor. If you ever have the problem where the clean water solution will not spray, it's a good possibility that this part needs to be replaced.

Simply install the new turbine, reattached the hoses and two front screws. When you're putting the top motor housing back on the unit, make sure that the brush speed selector knob that's on the right side of the turbine fits through the **** in the top motor housing. Also before tighting the two screws that that hold the top housing in in front of the brushes, there's two clips. You'll need to snap the top motor housing behind these two clips. Simply push front of the motor housing until you hear it snap into place.

That's about it. If you have any trouble with this repair, please don't hesitate to use the Clarification request form here on Fixya. I'm always more then happy to answer any follow up questions that you might have. If this repair was helpful to you, please help other Fixya members with this same problem find my repair by rating it helpful. You can do this by clicking the 4 Thumbs up icons in the right hand corner.

Thank you very much,

How do you install the belt on the kirby vacuum?

Step 1:
UNPLUG YOUR KIRBY VACUUM CLEANER. Before you go any further, take your time with this belt change. It's not that difficult, just a little different than most other vacuums. These belts are very easy to find on the internet. kirby-oldstyle1.jpg Step 2:
You should be facing the front of your Kirby vacuum. The height adjustment lever will be on your right. Push the lever all the way down. Lift the light hood with your left hand. Turn theKirby vacuum belt lifter counter-clockwise with your right hand. Unlock the accessory lock. The accessory lock is located under the light hood. Move the lock to the left to disengage it. Remove the front of the vacuum cleaner.
kirby-oldstyle2.jpg kirby-oldstyle2a.jpg Step 3:
Turn the vacuum belt lifter all the way clockwise until the belt drops down. Unlock the roller plate by releasing the two latches on the rear. Pull the roller plate up slightly and then off. kirby-oldstyle3.jpg kirby-oldstyle3a.jpg
Step 4:
Bend one end of the roller bracket just enough to remove the roller. Remove this end of the roller. If you need to replace the roller take it all the way out. Remove any carpet fiber, string, or hair from the roller with a scissor.

kirby-oldstyle4.jpg kirby-oldstyle4a.jpg Step 5:
After you have removed the old belt, slide the new one back on the middle of the roller. If you're Kirby vacuum cleaner has a belt indicator light, the roller will have a magnet built onto one end of it. It's very important to install to install a roller with a magnet on the same side as the indicator light. The roller actually will only fit into the roller plate one way.
kirby-oldstyle4.jpg Step 6:
Place the roller back in the roller bracket. Place the roller bracket back and lock it into place with the 2 latches. Rotate the vacuum cleaner belt lifter counter-clockwise. You should feel the the belt catch. Look inside to make sure the belt is being stretched onto the vacuum belt lifter. Reassemble the machine. After you have reassembled your Kirby, turn the belt lifter cockwise, releasing the vacuum belt onto the vacuum motor shaft. kirby-oldstyle2.jpg

The solution in my smart mix will not mix with water and the button just keeps going round and clicks and will not stop on either water or solution.

The smart mix knob is connected to a piston that slides up and down into the automix assembly. This piston has come off of the smartmix knob and left the unit on water only setting. Sometimes the smart mix knob breaks on the bottom side letting loose the piston.

This can be a difficult repair. You have to unscrew the flow indicator window and remove the fan and screen(pay attention to how they come out, most people want to put the pointed end of the white screen down. It goes up.) Place a piece of 2X4, a book, something underneath the machine, between the rear wheels. This will lift the wheels into the air, and keep everything in place when you remove the hood. Take the 6 screws out that hold the hood and lens. As you remove the hood try to do it slowly and pay special attention to any hoses that might try to pull off with it. If you don't get those hoses back into the right place, the machine will not work. The piston will probably be stuck into the automix assembly when you get the hood off. It is a three inch black cylinder with an O ring on it. If you hold the hood upside down and place the cornered side of the piston into the corner of the housing between the knob and the solution chamber, you should be able to hook the winding on the knob with the piston and then turn the knob to screw the piston down into the windings. It won't lock into place, but hold it there well enough to put the machine back together correctly.

If you feel like you're forcing something when putting the hood back on, you probably are, so stop and check to make sure all the hoses are where they are supposed to be.

Good Luck

Hoover Floormate H3000-050 power head/taking apart

I didn't find this as difficlut as red devil 6, however, having 2 people helps. Remove the brush assembly using the 2 brush release buttons. Remove the front nozzel by sliding the 2 nozzel release clips away from the unit. Do NOT remove any screws from the underside of the floor mate base.

Before you begin....on the new wheel assembly, locate the "spring loaded lever" that is attached by the 2 brass screws. Notice that it can be pushed to the side and it locks in place. If pushed again it releases. This is important when you go to make sure the wet/dry pick up indicator is working near the last step of the process.

The top grey cover on the base of the unit lifts off accessing the hubs that hold the handle to the base.

To remove the top grey cover, there are 6 clips that you have to move to one side or the other with a narrow flat blade screw driver. All 6 of these clips are accessed from the underside of the base unit. Work gently...red devil 6 was correct, you can break things easily.

GENTLY pry up the top grey cover exposing the 2 black hubs holding the handle to the base. Remove the 4 screws holding the hubs to the base. I found it easier to have the handle in the down position to remove the cover. I found it easier to have the handle up for 2 screws and down for the other 2 screws.

This is where 2 people come in handy. One person (me) holds the handle and base apart while the other person (my wife) installs the wheel assemlby. It is a little tricky to get in place. My wife found it easiest to install the nubs first (yes nubs, like a little axel that holds the wheel assembly to the base) at the back of the wheel assembly, then slip the pin at the front of the wheel assembly into its position (where the old one came from).

Reset handle and hubs into the base and tighten 4 screws.

Before you go any further, make sure your dry/wet pickup indicator works.....The INDICATOR is the thing that has two red spots on it and tells you if you are on wet or dry pickup. GENTLY TRY to work the wet dry pedal with you HAND to see if the indicator swithces between wet and dry easily. If you are not GENTAl and you force it, you WILL BREAK it. If it does EAISLY go back and forth between wet and dry you have to reset the indicator. Push the indicator stem (the stem that sticks down into the base) up through the base and push the spring loaded lever (see before you begin above) assembly on the wheel assembly to the side. Reinstall the indicator stem and make sure the little spring end is positioned over top of the plastic stub. Recheck GENTLY the function of the wet/dry pickup foot pedal, but use your HAND.

Finally, reinstall top grey cover. It's a little tricky but we found it helpful to have the handle in the down position. Make sure it snaps back into place.

You did it!.

This took my wife and I about 45 minutes to 1 hour....but at least half of the time was spent going slow to ensure I didn't break anything else.

Good luck.

I CAN'T SEEM TO INSTALL A NEW UB8 BELT

  1. Remove the lower plate
  2. Carefully lift up on the agitator assembly until it clears both sides of the nozzle housing.
    repagita.png
  3. Remove the belt from the motor shaft by sliding it off between the end of the shaft and the nozzle housing.
3.4.2 Installation
  1. Place the belt around the motor shaft.
  2. Start the new agitator assembly back into the nozzle housing by placing the side opposite the belt partially into the slot. This will hold the agitator in place and leave both hands free to place enough tension on the belt to allow that side of the agitator to return to the nozzle housing slot.
    repagitb.png
  3. Place the belt around the agitator pulley on the agitator assembly.
NOTE: There is a place for the belt to fit on one end of the agitator assembly only. This is the agitator pulley.
  4. Use both hands to pull the belt tight, and slide the agitator assembly firmly into the slots on each end of the nozzle housing.
    repagitc.png
  5. Rotate the agitator assembly by hand to insure nothing rubs and to check for correct assembly.
  6. Replace the lower plate
