Question about Manfrotto 745MF3 Tripod

701RC2 going on 745B sticks

Can't figure out how to remove the existing head (which appears to be a telescope or surveyor's mount of some kind; has #18050, and many incremental marking for degrees), so I can install my new 701 head.  Any suggestions?

Hey SkipHall,
As in most Manfrotto tripods this tripod should have 3 set screws underneath the head mounting surface. Unscrew these set screws and you should be able to unscrew the current head off the tripod by holding the center column and turning the head counter clockwise. Installation of the new head should be the reverse. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

How to remove the head of a Giottos camera tripod

Most tripods have a 1/4" thread attached to the centre column, which then screws into the base of the head (some may have a 3/8" thread, but the principle is the same).
Grasp the head firmly in one hand, the shaft firmly in the other, and rotate the head counter clockwise to remove the old head. If it has been in situ for some time, it may be stiff to rotate.
Once you have removed the old head, lubricate the threads on the centre column, then attach the new head, rotating this one clockwise.
If the old head will not unscrew under firm manual pressure, remove the centre column and place in a vice, packing it with wooden battens to protect it. Then attempt to unscrew the head, using a mole grip or similar if necessary.

What do I do to attach the camera after attaching it to the mount piece?

the quick release plate, that you are calling the "mount piece" will just snap onto the head of the tripod - if you aren't sure, a good way is to take off the QR plate from the camera, and then, with the screw threads face up, see how it fits into the head - many times, you have to engage the spring lever, so when you set the plate inside the head, it will snap locked into place. Then, re-mount it on your camera, and do the same thing, and there ya go.

Cannot find way to attach new Pistol Grip head

Often the less expensive tripods do not have heads that are removeble and replaceable. On the Sunpak 6600DX you have teken the head apart, but there is no provision for putting on a new one because it was never made to take one.

I have a Swarovski tripod with a Swarovski/Manfrotto (both names are on it) head which I would like to remove to replace it with a ball head. Can anyone tell me how I can remove this? Thank you.

Extend the extension so you are able to look at the underside of the mounting flange. You will see at least three screws requiring a slot type screw driver. Loosen these screw so the head just protrudes from the flange, make sure the head is locked in a position and unscrew it from the center mounting stud. Left to loosen and right tightens.

Reassembling telescopic sections for a 676B monopod

Each leg lock has a leg locking lever and a screw that hold the clamp assembly tight to the leg. Unlock the leg lock lever, loosen the screw above it that holds the clamp tight to the leg. The legs should fit into each other sice each leg is slightly larger or smaller then then next one. Slide the clamps in the approprite places and tighten the screw enough to hold the clamp assembly tight, but do not over tighten it. Over tightening will damage the 679 tubes.

I just had this same problem and came across your post.  In frustration I held the grip and then let it go very quickly where the grip 'snapped' back.
Now it works.  Go figure.  I will mention a very small piece of plastic fell out of it, but it does not appear to hinder the functionality.
