Question about Garmin GPS 12 GPS Receiver

Receiver not picking up satalites

I'm not sure how, but two things happened: Firstly, I dropped the receiver (from about 2ft), and secondly, I erased all the waypoints and track logs.

Since then it will do everything bar pick up any signals. There are no reception bars at all (my etrex picks up signals so I know they're out there!). I've tried re-initialising but no luck there either.

Is it possible that the internal antena has come loose, and if so, how do I fix it?

Cheers, Robert.

Thanks wasa590 and kc8nqa - I ended up ditching the unit; the newer hand sets are more acurate anyways!

I have exactly the same problem and will have a look inside myself as I am told it would be cheaper to buy a new unit thas]n send it in for repair.

Sometimes it could take up to 10-30 mins with the GPS turned on and in a clear sky veiw , also not moving -like just laying on the porch or dashboard of a car to re-aquire sats and it datum table.

If that does not work, to fix the antenna would mean prying the unit apart to access the connection on the board.

My navman icn520 will not pick up satalite

go inside your 520 and you may see the plugs or the gps have come off this sometimes happens when you have knocked the unit. the wires are attached to the rear cover and run down and under a piece sticky tape check and see if they have fallen off.

Failure to locate satalites

This is a common problem caused by a component failure of the flip up GPS receiver assembly. More information on this topic with things to try can be found here:

Why wouldn't my ifinder h2o c gps not pick up any satalite signal

The most common reasons are thus
1) You do not have the right PORT and BAUD set
Consult the manual for the software.
2) You are noit in a location where the sky is visible to the unit)
move outside and away from buildings or electrical items
3) Your battery power is too low to get a fix

4) nThe SIIRF chip is damaged

Satalite Signal?

Have you tried resetting the unit? Have you done a master reset? If not, try these. Just be aware, a Master Reset will ERASE ALL YOUR FAVORITES.
