This is a problem with the electronic control. Please furnish the complete model number to identify who was the manufacture as Kenmore does not make their own Appliances.

I guess the culprit in this case is the compressor.. Do you hear a sound when you are near the refrigirator.. it will be like a fan rotating at a high speed...

Kenmore coldspot, freezer frosted up then auto defrost and both freezer and fridge stopped cooling. unplugged and defrosted and now freezer works but not fridge. vacummed coils already. 3 yrs old.

Check the freezer fan motor.
Is it working>
If not,replace it.
Also you must replace the defective defrost parts.
Timer......heater.....thermostat.

You have a leak in the sealed refrigerant systyem. A Service man is required or a new fridge. Take your pick.

You have a refrigerant leak. Your coil in the freezer should be frosted. You're looking at 600 dollars minumum for repair.

Light is on but frig stopped cooling

I had a problem with my Viking where the light stayed on in side and was causing havoc with the coling system.
I saved 200.00 doing this.
get a cell phone or a small video camer place it inside the fridge and record to see if the light stays on when the door is closed.
If it does. You may just have a light switch to replace or like I did readjust the push spring that the door hinge hits to active the switch.
Once I did this the light went out and the fridge started cooling normally. the lights will heat up inside the fridge and screw up the thermostat. then the fridge will start to cycle. not good for the compressor.
hope this helped.
good luck

Stopped cooling -fisher and paykel fridge

ok you say the compressor sounds right?? there's probably a defective relay overload / start cap combination defective. if you go behind the the fridge and remove a small cover you will see the compressor with power disconnected look for frayed or burnt wires take the compressor cover off and you will see the wires just follow the 3 wires. you can buy a replacement relay/overload capacitor combination all you have to do is wire it any additional questions you can e-mail me at hvac.tech7872pr@gmail.com

have a nice day

Fridge stopped working suddenly

Sounds like the relay (start device) on the compressor has failed.  This is a very common problem especially for models that are 3-5 yrs old.  I would replace that first.
