Sounds like you may have overheated the motor. I'm surprised the overload on the motor didn't trip first. With this overheating, the windings in the motor have basically shorted out to ground. This is why your breaker is tripping. Rewinding the motor is no longer the option these days. You can try going online to www.searspartsdirect.com

Sears table saw model #137221940. need instruction to take motor apart to replace bearings

Page 23 of the manual (link below) shows an exploded view of your saw. This might be of some help to you. But the Sears parts site had no drawings available for the motor (part 940136)

If you have never take an motor like this apart, and if it is similar to motors used in belt-driven saws, then it might also be helpful for you to know that the four surprisingly long and skinny bolts that run parallel to the motor shaft do have to be removed, then you can carefully pull the ends off of the motor.

What is the proper way to attach the pulley to the shaft of a Craftsman Table Saw? What size and style 'key' does the shaft take that the allen screw tightens down on to stay on the shaft?

At the arbor end it should be a curved 3/16" key. At the motor it will be a square 3/16" key. I would guess these should be available at most hardware stores, but I would have both types & most other parts too. I sell craftsman table saw parts, you can contact me via email jimatcavanaungh@cs.com

You may find a replacement motor on ebay. I deal in Craftsman Belt drive table saws, yours looks to be a direct drive. Sorry I wouldn't be much help with those, Jim

New or used motor for a Craftsman 10" table saw

You can try Sears but they can be a bit pricey. I use to send out motors for a factory I worked in to a rebuilder who would even do new windings. Check in your area for a rebuilder, As for the replacement being a Sears unit they may have a similar motor in stock. Good luck.
