Question about Whirlpool Ovens

1 Answer

My oven has a safty feature that when the electricity goes off you have to reset the breaker. This happened and when reset, it now has a code showing on the panel the code is (in red) E3 and (in black) -F1-. Everything on the oven will work except the heat light will not stay on and the heating elements will not heat. Can you help?

Hi.

I guess that we are talking about a Whirlpool built oven here, such as a Jenn Air or a Kenmore.

E3-F1 means that there is a bad connection detected between input pad and control module.

In that case the first thing to do is one of the reset procedures:

FAULT ERROR: F1 E3
NOTE:
Make sure harness to P1 connector is correctly installed
per wiring diagram before performing the following steps:
STEP 1 Power off and wait 5 seconds.
STEP 2 Power on and wait 5 seconds.
STEP 3 Press the following keys:

CONVECTION - CONV. BROIL CLEAN BAKED GOODS 190 TIMER SET

NON-CONVECTION - CLEAN STOP TIME 0 OVEN LIGHT 1

STEP 4 Press START.
STEP 5 Make sure Timer ID is the same as the oven.
STEP 6 Press CANCEL to exit.

OTHER:

POWER OFF 5 SEC
POWER ON WAIT 5 SEC
CONVECTION BROIL
CLEAN
BAKED GOODS
"STOP TIME"
190
TIMER SET
START

If the procedures do not work, I suggest calling the manufacturer service number listed on manual (or on their website), and getting followed by a phone operator while doing the reset.

If the pad connection is really faulty, here the testing procedure. Testing and repair must be done by a trained person.

  1. Disconnect power to stove
  2. Gain access to the back of the clock (electronic range control or ERC).
  3. Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire approx. 1 1/2" to 2" wide.
  4. Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on.
  5. Turn power back on to stove.
  6. Watch for the F1 and listen for the beep.
  7. If you get the F1 and beep, replace the ERC.
  8. If after approx. 30 minutes you do NOT get the F1 and hear the beep, replace the touch pad.
Regards.

Ginko.

How do I use the 'self clean' feature? I can't find the manual and it needs to be done

Good luck with that - whenever we use the self-clean function it goes crazy on us - beeping, error codes - door locks up - have to reset breaker to make it shut down. The last time the door got permanently locked - nightmare!!
Also, there is a recall on some of the wall units - ours of course isn't part of that recall - Thermador doesn't care that we can't open our oven - they'd rather you purchase another piece of junk!!

Erroe code 5ab

According to the manual, this mode is SAB and not 5AB. SAB stands for sabath mode and lasts for 72 hours. The mode may be canceled by holding in the clock button for 3 seconds. This mode was activated by holding in the clock button for 3 seconds. My wife did the same thing when resetting the clock for daylight savings time this year. Resetting the power does not reset SAB mode.

Dacor epicure electric oven

On my Dacor oven whenever I use the self cleaning feature it trips the breaker and the oven doesn't heat up. It can be reset, but you need to take off the front panel and reach way back for the red reset button.

F9 code

I hit the same F9 problem when trying to self-clean, except that the door was locked OPEN.

After much trial and error, I found the following fix: 1. Switch circuit breaker off. 2. Switch circuit breaker on. 3. Press Bake button. 4 Press the small/inside button which indicates that the oven door is closed.

The lock mechanism opened and the oven now works fine.
