Question about Samsung SCX4828FN AllInOne Laser Printer

The printer prints, but it won't scan. The bar goes across and lights up, but won't scan or copy.

Hardware failure. It's broken, and it's too expensive to fix it. I've got the same problem, and a "solution" here:

HP PSC scans with black line


If printing is ok there're two things that could cause that defect when scanning/ copying:

-. If printer model has both ADF and cam glass and problem only occurs when using the ADF then you should check the ADF glass for something obstructing light path (tipex or other type of dirt)
-. If the printer only has cam for scanning then the problem is on the sensor itself (the "bar" that moves when you scan something inside the scanner). It's not usual that dirt enters the sensor as It's pretty hermetic so I would think that the sensor is damaged and will need to be replaced.

Probably either the scan lamp or the sensor bar has failed. Do you see the scan lamp glowing under the cover when you try to scan a document? (Lift the edge of the cover slightly and watch the underside of the cover, you should see the reflection from a bright bar of light moving from one end of the original to the other. Do not look directly down into the light if it is on!)

The printer will print a bar code but the reader will not read it. the reader reads the bar code from a second printer just fine


Sounds like there are some elements worn off of the printhead causing some of the bars to not be printed. To test, create a label that prints a thick black line or solid black box across the width of the label (assuming a 4" label). Any vertical white lines that show indicate elements that are not functioning.
You could also put one label above the other, lining up the barcodes and you'll probably see bars that are missing from the label that won's scan.
The only ways to correct the problem are to install a new printhead or move the barcode field on the label so that the missing elements fall in the spaces between the bars.

My Del 962 will not scan. The light does not come on and it does nothing. What should I do?


Hi,.... I'm having the same problem as sharon_mi334. My Dell AIO 962 does not copy, fax or scan...but prints. When attempted(copy, fax or scan), the output is a scanned image or a print out that's completely black. When I looked at the "scanner light unit/ copier camera" or what-ever it's called ... the gizmo that moves across under the glass plate,... I noticed there was NO light coming out of it as it should on any other copier, etc. Sooo,... is that the problem, ie: unable to copy the image? If so, can I fix that by replacing a bulb or a particular unit? Looking for some advice and thank you for your help and time.

Yes the bub for it needs replacement. please consult a service technician that is accredited by epson, you can check one on your area by going to www.epson.com site and look for a servicer.

Take alook at the Scan lamp ( the light that goes across the document you are making a copy of, does it hesitate or make a sound? if you can open it and apply some WD40 on a tissue and rub the tissue on the silver bar, if it doesn't have a bar but a black belt with teeth, it may be the motor or something preventing it from running smoothly.

The copy function prints a solid black page?


Do you see the light going all the way across? The printer may be having power issues. You should make sure it is plugged into the wall and not into a surge protector or a power strip.

If the light is not coming on then there is an issue with the scanner bulb and if the printer is plugged into the wall then you should call hp and see if you can have it replaced.
