Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I have an HP 12c. It's about 10 years old. Died on me last week. So thinking its the batteries, I purchased 3 mini batteries. Put them in and it still didn't work. Now what?

Seriously, I did that. I went to Staples, they matched the batteries and it didn't work.

Your comments are basic stuff. I was hoping you had a not so common suggestion.

I am not comfortable paying $6 for your answer. I do appreciate your attempt to helping me however.

To start I must mention that the calculator itself may be faulty. In that case there is nothing to do. We do not normally repair this devices.
After that, HP recommend that you use only one of the batteries below (alkaline). This calculator will not work if you do not use the right batteries.

HP 12c (All serial numbers below CN11500001)*

Duracell PX76A/675A

Panasonic LR44

HP 12c (Beginning with serial # CN11500001), HP 12c platinum and prestige series:

Duracell DL 2032

Panasonic CR2032

Resuming: ensure that you are using the right battery; possibly double check battery installation; if that is OK, then replace calculator. The same model is available from about $50. Other HP finantial calculator prices start at about $25:

Hewlett Packard 12C

Hewlett Packard 10BII Business

I was not kidding or taking you not seriously. IThat is no basic stuff, you have to go through HP service or owners documentation for the specific device, or at best dig out something in HP forums. Double check that the guy at Staple's have used one of the kinds above, or that the battery are alkaline.

Other than that there is no solution.

    Wrong batteries are common occurrence.

About your $6, if that is your main concern, write to

I normally charge $60 ph to repair electronics, and I will get a small reward from each solution. I throw my time in here because I like it, this is not my job, and only a small reward goes to the expert.

I would be grateful if you do not leave bad feedback however. Feedback given to the expert does not affect your rights. It only affect the stats of the expert that is throwing away his time to help you.

    Best regards.

No worries. I feel that my advice is correct, professional and also reasonable.

I am sure that you have the wrong batteries, if not, then the calc is faulty.

The unit is mentioned as not serviceable in HP documentation (I am Compaq certified). The tech at most can undo the screws at the back , remove cover and check if there is continuity at battery soldering joint, and if there is continuity between battery joints and lines to logic circuit, and also check LCD. That would cost one hour job ($80 in bill), but it can also be done by the user using a common $25 multimeter set on impedance.

Next time I suggest signing in the free forum (Ask The Community).

    Have a good day.

Purchased the new anniverary version and after about 9 months it just would not turn on , previous units lasted about 10 years at 99 .00 dollars i need to fix this one

Having gone over half a year without a response to my query, I assume a new set of batteries solved the problem.
The Anniversary Edition 12C uses a much faster processor than the original 12C. The new processor also uses more current, and thus you won't get battery life as long.

I have an HP 12c. I replaced the battery (CR2032) and the unit will not turn on.

Try to flip the battery, if it does not work, pull the battery out and wait for 10 minutes. After that, put the battery in again.

My Dell inspiron mini 10 is just over 1 year old not used very much at all, last week for no reason there is no display on the screen, I tried to reboot on battery power and ac no luck. Thanks Frank.

There are 3 mini 10 models sold by Dell. The Inspiron 1010 (Mini 10), Insprion 1012 (Mini 10) and the Insprion 1018 (Mini 10v). Depending on which model you have, you can try to connect an external monitor and see if you get a display. The 1012 and the 1018 have a 15 pin VGA plug on the left side of the laptop and the 1010 has an HDMI jack for video. If you get a display then your LCD display is bad and needs to be replaced.

Car died on frway towed to shop started up. 3 years ago had tune up and car died. mech said needed new distributor module 400$. got a used one same problem. Changed plug wires and ran fine till now. Thats...

3 years ago, my car was running really rough. No accelleration, stalling etc. I narrowed it down to the distributor and changed it myself for about 100 bucks. Then last week, the car would start sometimes and sometimes not. When it would not start, I found that it had no spark. So it finally quit altogether. I put the old distributor back in (Yes, I kept it), and it ran. It ran rough like it did 3 years prior, but it ran. I have purchased another distributor for $100, and will put it in, and it will fix the problem. The distributor is an all in one package. Coils, rotor, pickups. It's held on by 2 bolts (12mm socket). Pretty easy to change out, just pay attention to the way the rotor is pointing when you take the old one out, and put the new one in the same. 3 year lifespan due to a sh*tty oil seal on them.

Incorrect claculation

I get an answer of 366.91 in my 12C as well. You might try either putting in a zero for FV before hitting the [PMT] key, or clearing your registers before doing the problem, as you may be picking up an old value from a previous problem in the FV register.
