Question about Kidde Nighthawk Combo Gas/co Detector

1 Answer

I just purchased the combo Sunday. We are still having symptoms but the detector says 0 with the blinking dot. The gas valve to the stove has been shut off which was the problem from what the Gas Comp. & Fire Dept had detected. My question is how do I know that its working properly. Ive pressed the test/rest button but it still says 0 with the blinking dot. What do I do?

Take the detector to the gas co. or fire dept and have them check it, that way you know for sure.

Thermador PH36HQS Recently purchased a house with gas stove which I've always had electric. It has a griddle that I am not exactly sure how to turn on. I turn knob on and hear something

Gas is not to dangerous as long as you do everything properly. Ensure you have CO2 detectors throughout you're house and also if you smell gas when you are not using/lighting you're stove there may be an issue. Now to the stove, the clicking you are hearing is the spark to light the gas. let it make that noise until you see a flame. Here is a video and links to CO2 detectors. http://www.homedepot.com/b/Electrical-Fire-Safety-Carbon-Monoxide-Alarms/N-5yc1vZbmgk

My Kidde Carbon monoxide beeps every 30 seconds and is showing L6 with a flash of 0? It is brand new. What does this mean?

L6 is actually "Lb", which is a low battery warning. If the 9V battery is missing, or if the battery's power is low, an "Lb" message will display, which blink's alternately with the current CO reading, while chirping. If this happens, you need to replace the battery.

I tested my digital carbon monoxide detector and it flashed 888 and then flashed 248 and then back to 888 and reset back to 0. what does that mean.

When you pressed pressed the Test button, it did exactly what it should. It was testing itself and the one set of numbers was for co and the other was for gas, The ' 0' means it tested fine and there is no presence of gas or co in the home's atmosphere at this time. :)

The detector is going off and reading err. message

There have continual problems with this unit. It may be that you have it mounted or plugged-in in the wrong place. As a co detector it should not be mounted in the same room as the gas appliance or wood burning stove. In addition, as a co/gas detector it should NEVER be mounted on the ceiling. A co/gas detector should always be mounted or plugged-in to a wall receptacle that is at least, but not more than 2 feet off the floor and not in the same room as the gas appliance. It will false alarm and give error messages when in fact nothing is wrong. If the problem continues, return it to the place of purchase for a new one.

Reads 0, but there is a blinking light at the bottom right hand corner of the display.

This is what the display shows when it is operating normally. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Periodically emits 3 loud beeps. Displays 888.

The CO detectors require replacement of the battery periodically.

Unlike smoke detectors, the detector element itself also requires replacement as well as the battery and is sold as a module with the battery attached.

Check the expiry date on this unit. The manufacturer recommends replacement usually after 5 to 7 years depending on the model.
