Open Question

APC UPS Series: LS; P/N: BP700UC; Age: 28 months; PowerChute Personal edition ver: 1.3.1 Batteries never replaced. Several weeks ago the 'Replace Battery' light began flashing while the computer was either off or in standby mode. On power up the software indicated that the battery was disconnected. After shutting down the computer; unplugging all loads and the source power from the UPS. The battery was visually inspected to confirm that the leads were connected. On reconnection everything appeared to be in order; no red lights, no alerts. Today after the computer system had been in standby mode for approximately 12 hours, I found the 'Replace Battery' light blinking. When the computer was powered up, the UPS began to chirp and an alert popped up advising that the battery was disconnected. The computer was shut down; the power source to the UPS was disconnected for approximately 15 seconds and then reconnected. Turning on the UPS caused the 'Replace Battery' light to flash several times then extinguish. After turning on the computer the PowerChute software advises 100% battery capacity and an expected battery time of 29 minutes. Subsequent to both incidents a self test was initiated but not completed. The software indicated "Unable to carry out a self test at this time." APC BACK-UPS ES 500VA fails to provide back up during power failure

Get APC Powerchute Personal Edition for free and run it. If it says your battery isnt charged, check its voltage disconnected. Charge it with a car battery charger and see if its still a good battery. If not , replace it. If the battery is good, then check the charging voltage. Should be about 14 volts. if not, check the small transformer on the main board. Should be 120 in and 17 to 18 out. 4 diodes in a bridge for charge. The input to the transf has small fuse into it alone.

APC 1100CI-IN UPS NOT EORING ON GENERETOR WHAT I DO? PLZ SEND SULATION E-MAIL singhpintu987@gmail.com

Hello Sing,

There is a possibility that your UPS doesn't like the voltage or frequency that the generator is feeding it. As per an APC knowledgebase article, the size of a generator should be 3 to 5 times higher that the total Watt/VA load that it would be supporting.

There are also instances wherein the sensitivity threshold of an APC BackUPS is set too high that a slight change in voltage/sensitivity would cause the unit to switch from online to on battery too frequently. This can be addressed by lowering the sensitivity either by their APC PowerChute Personal Edition Software or via the front panel switch.

If you are going to do it via the software, it needs to be installed on your computer. Prior to downloading it, make sure that your operating system is compatible with it. Suppose that your operating system is compatible, once the program is installed you will need to open it up and look for the Sensitivity option and from there you could select Low, Medium or High.

If you are going to do it via the front panel switch/button the UPS should then be turned off but plugged in to an input source. Press and hold the On button until you see that the LEDs are flashing. Once the LED is flashing, press the button again to set the desired sensitivity. Low sensitivity would show the On Battery LED flashing. Medium is On Battery and Overload LED while High is On Battery, Overload and Replace Battery LED flashing. If you'll see a flashing Online LED it means that you are cancelling or exiting the program mode of the UPS.

Hello sir, I don't actually know how to charge my apc cs 650... and And when the power is out, so does my computer.. low battery.. I just need a simple answer about this.. is it not charging? or do i need...

If you connect the control cable to a PC and install the PowerChute Personal Edition V3.0.2 f software you should be able to see if it is charging and what the percentage of charge held in the battery is.

On the CS 650 the lowest power connection is the surge only powerpoint.

To give the battery a full charge or to test it you can connect it to a car battery trickle charger, as it is a 12 volt battery, rthis will at least mean you can check that it holds a charge in the first place.

Battery backup time is 1 min when capacity is 100%(4 months older

The Batteries are the most likely course of your UPS backup problem. The batteries cell may have been weaken with Age or loose contacts. Check to confirm the battery contacts are not loose, replace the batteries with good one.You can also check the strenght of the batteries by using a Multimeter and load to read the voltage of the batteries outside the UPS. If the battery voltage drops below 10V Dc on load the the batteries should be replace. Otherwise check the battery contacts.

Smart UPS 1500 - battery level green lights blink on and off

You need to run recalibration on the unit.  The supplied PowerChute software & cable will allow you to do this if you hook the UPS up to a PC (I know it works with the serial cable, not sure about USB).  If you only have a MAC then I cannot offer a solution other than to buy the standalone PowerView device from APC.  It will cost a bit more than a battery, but may save you from buying needless batteries in the future.  I finally broke down an bought one, but note that I was still having the problem after the 1st recalibration.  By trial and error (and maybe a vague memory) I put my MAC in sleep mode, that dropped the load to stop the lights from flashing.  Then I recalibrated with a 22% load and now it finally seems better (lights no longer flashing).  This was with a Smart-UPS 1000.
Let me know if that helps.

Less back up time

I found the following on APC's web-site for the APC Back-UPS, this will hopefully fix the problem:
You can also perform a manual runtime calibration. This could be done if you have changed your equipment load or battery. Stop the PowerChute software from running; disconnect the serial cable between the computer and UPS. Next unplug the UPS from the wall and let it run on battery until it reaches low battery. Once it reaches low battery plug it back into the wall outlet and let it recharge. Recharge time can take up to 4 hours.
