Why is my Bernina 440QE is "gathering" my stitches when I am just sewing fabric together. Aurifil top and bottom, and a 80/12 Micro Tex needle. The stitch is at 2.40, pressure at 47. Can you help?

The tensions on the machine may be too tight. You may need to loosen both, the upper tension and the bobbin tension. In addition, you may also try shortening the stitch length a bit.

Is there any way to get a brother auto button hole to work on a thick winter jacket

Thick fabric presents some special problems for buttonholes. It may help to place tissue paper (like giftwrap tissue) under and above the fabric to help the fabric slide better. If not using a special buttonhole foot, a teflon foot or roller foot may also help.

Also, consult your owner's manual. If your machine has a presser foot pressure adjustment, it may help to loosen that so the presser foot does not press so hard on the fabric.

Remove wax on fabric

place one layer of greaseproof paper on the ironing board, several layers of absorbent paper such as disposable kitchen towel or tissue, then the fabric centring the wax then more absorbent layers and a layer of greaseproof paper - that protects the ironing board and the sole of the iron. Use dry heat, and press gently, gradually increasing the temperature of the iron until the wax melts and moves into the absorbent layers. Change the absorbent layers several times until there is no trace of the wax left in the fabric.

I have a juki DDL-8700, I believe that the tension is off, when I use the knee lift to move my fabric the tension does not return to normal. It leave the back off the fabric all loopy. Help me please!

Did you get this answered?
Start by tipping your machine back and making sure that the "mushroom" that is in the middle of your oil pan, isn't stuck as it pops up and down when you press your leg on your knee press. Also that your knee press is working freely.

If neither was a problem, you will probably need a mechanic. If you want to try to look behind your tension on the front of your machine, use a soft brush to clean around your tension, being careful not to bend or break off the wire that is attached to the left side of the tension discs.

Do you work on either very fuzzy or plastic type materials? Small pieces of fuzzy fabric or thread can get inside the left end of the machine and slow down the release of the tension. Also, I have noticed that if I sew on too thick of fabric, like 2 layers of upholstery fabric with a self covered large cord in between, I have tension problems. Some of my larger cording feet aggravate the problem, especially if they are not a hinged foot.
Good Luck.

Elna sewing machine fabric is puckering

Check tension and threading up first, sounds like top tension or thread catching somewhere. Also have you changed the needle, i change mine for EACH new sewing project, needles go blunt and need replacing every 4-6 hours of sewing. Lastly, press seams as you go, this improves appearance and blends stitching into the fabric,

We got this cash register for a fabric store. How do I enter one quarter meter of fabric at 11.50 a meter

.25 X 1150 then press the fabric button (department)
Always entered as quantity x amount and never use a decimal point in the price, only quantity.
If you are in the USA, some machines will have an @ button instead of x, so you would enter .25 @ 1150 fabric

You can get universal card adaptors, just make sure its compatible with your memory stick.

You can also get USB adaptors, put you card into the adaptor the plug the adaptor into a PC.

Have a search on ebay, that should give you a few ideas.

Fabric softener dispensor does not empty

For the FAV6800A or FAV9800A:

If you have no water flow to the Softener dispenser or Bleach dispenser see if you can turn the dispenser valves on Service Mode and verify water flow to the reservoirs.
Enter Service Mode (page 14 of the Service manual) by Pressing Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys (simultaneously) for three seconds or until the console beeps.

Now go to page 16 to Service Manual and enter Board Output Test by pressing the Delicates key. This will lock the lid. Now press the
Wrinkle Control Key Pad on the console. The Control Board will send 120VAC to the Fabric Softener dispenser water valve. Did you hear the solenoid hum? If so we will now need to turn on the Cold Water Inlet Valve and see if water flows to the dispenser.

Now press the Spin Only key this will turn on the Cold Water inlet valve after 5 seconds press the Off key. The washer will unlock. Check to see if water did flow to the fabric dispenser reservoir. If you heard the Fabric dispenser valve hum then most likely 120VAC was applied to the solenoid. If water did not flow then the Fabric dispenser valve is stuck closed if you heard it hum.

The Bleach/Fabric dispenser water valve is an assembly and is not repairable you have to replace.

Final technical troubleshooting as a technical owner of the machine would be to take my DVM and verify 120VAC from the Control Board to the Fabric dispenser solenoid.

See page 36 lower left hand corner is the Bleach/Softener dispenser valve.
Here is the Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

The Part Number for the Dispenser Valve is 25001043 you can order from this site or search the internet for best price try…

You can remove the Fabric Softner to clean see page 33 of the Service Manual…Rich
