First you will need to reset the printer by unplugging it from the power source in the back. Leave it unplugged for about 30 seconds then turn it back on, next follow this link and the instructions for the error message listed above

HP Photosmart PremiumC 309g-m started a day ago will not print anything even test page. Message says load paper into photo tray. Nothing obvious seems to work, shutting down printer and restarting,...

Unplug the power from the printer.
Press the # key and the 6 at the same time and hold them down
connect the power while continuing to hold down these keys
wait for a message about a semi-nvm reset or something like that to appear on the screen, and then release the buttons. If the unit shuts down while you are pressing the buttons, release them, and press power just long enough to turn the unit on.

If the printer does not react normally after this, post a reply here.

PRINTER SHOWING THE MESSAGE TO AVOID DAMAGE USE THE ON BUTTON TO SHUT DOWN DO NOT USE POWER STRIP OR WALL SWITCH TO SHUT DOWN

Your question is kind of confusing. From what I get is that your printer is saying to not shut it down by unplugging it or breaker switch? If that's the case simply hold the power button till it shuts down (if it doesn't shut off after 5 seconds release and it should shut down).

If the message is saying do not shut it down at all, try and wait it out. It could be loading drivers or saving data etc etc.

Another problem it that you could have print jobs waiting and shutting down could corrupt data. Try and look at the bottom right of your computer screen and find a printer icon. From there you should be able to right click and disable pending print jobs etc etc.

Hope This helps!

Error 0xc18a0001

The ink system failure message has a chance to be fixed or it may be a permanent issue. It can be pointing toward a firmware failure in the printer and if that is the case the following steps should fix it. Press and hold print photo's and the red eye removal buttons then press red eye removal then print photos then red eye removal again. Display should say ?Support? and display the FW rev (something like R0631R) Mine reads R0631M . Press and release the right arrow button until the display says ?System Configuration Menu?. Press and release the ?OK? button. Display should say ?Hardware failure status?. If not there already, Arrow Key over to ?Hardware failure status?, Press and release the ?OK? button. Display should say ?Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear?. Press and release the ?OK? Button. Message changes to ?Hardware failure status Cleared. Press Cancel to continue?. Press and release the ?CANCEL? button as many times as necessary, so that, either the ?Welcome to Photosmart Express? screen appears, or, the ?Ink System Failure? screen appears. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE. Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the printer and wall outlet. Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall outlet first and then into the back of the printer. Turn the unit on. The printer may display message ?USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER? followed by ?PRESS OK TO CONTINUE?. Press OK. The Printer will start the ?ONE TIME INK INITIALIZATION PROCESS?. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page. Good Luck!

Printer cycles on/off and displays "improper shut down"

Got the same problem following a message "Printer ink failure" code 0xc19a0035. Instructions say to shut down using button on/off. But printer refused to shutdown. After 30 minutes, I disconnected power cable. Removed cartridges. Reloaded cartridges. Reconnected power cable and got "Improper shutdown" message with continuous cycle. Solution: 1. While the printer is still turned on, unplug all cables and cords at the back of the printer.
2. Unplug the power cord also from the wall outlet...
3. Wait for two minutes.
4. Reconnect power cord to the wall outlet first.
5. Press and hold the pound (#) and six (6) buttons.
6. While holding down the two buttons, reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer and after two seconds, release pound and six buttons.
7. Turn on the printer if it turns off... and it's fixed.

Which says maintenace required

The message indicates its time to clean/change the drum or other items inside the printer. You can purchase a maintenace kit online or take it in for service. You can also clear this message if you don't want to service your printer ... follow these steps: ***Keep in mind not doing the maintence may cause expensive issues down the road***

1. Shut the Printer off. (Use the shut off switch)

2. Hold down the Left Side of the ITEM and VALUE Buttons while powering the Printer back on.

3. Continue to hold Buttons until the Printer says “RESET MAINTENANCE COUNTER”, Then release the Buttons.
