You must press F6 during the XP setup when it asks you for a third party disk controller driver. You get one chance to do this, near the beginning of the setup. You must have the SATA driver available an a drive you can read during setup, such as a floppy disk. The driver should have come with the motherboard, otherwise you may have to download it.

I am tring to install win XP with sata drive and

Make sure it is listed in your system CMOS before starting the XP install. Make sure cables are correct, and the drives are not turned off in CMOS. Some setup will allow you to set the drive types to AUTO, so you can also try that.

I assume you mean how.

Reakky sata is easy, Just clip on to the right port and plug power. Your system shoud be able to autodetect it. Just make sure that you go into th bios and make sure that sata is enabled.

Msi 661fm3-v

Hi there
If its XP you are trying to install then you will have to get extra drivers for setup to recognize the SATA drive.
The drivers you need will be in the "matrix storage manager" you can download this from Microsofts download site.
Once download read the instructions carefully as you will either have to create a floppy disk or a bootable USB drive with the SATA drivers on them.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

MY msi 7082 cant read HDD 40GB and above whY>?

Your board specifications are here - http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=661FM3-L&class=mb

This sounds like a memory timing issue based on the caution from the MSI page. There is no reason the board itself should have a problem with that size hard drive. Have you reset the bios to factory default and tried the various compatibility settings available in the bios?
