Just because this may answer some people's questions. Try reinstalling MS Office.

Apple also makes a $79.00 program called iWork, which has word processing and spreadsheets and presentations.

If office is not 2008 then yes. 2004 runs under rosetta emulation. Best thing other than upgrading the ram is to update to latest version or Upgrade to 2008. The more older non intel apps you run then increase you ram it will help only.

Not usually, It depends how much other stuff you are running. You may need a RAM upgrade. Next time it locks up hit "Apple, option, esc" will bring up a task manager, you can close the programs not responding from here. Try closing all programs and then trying your office APPS. If still no good you WILL need a RAM upgrade.

Why does my Macbook Pro freeze?

When does it freeze exactly? When you are running an app or is it a sleep/awake failure?

Without knowing this, I will suggest the following:
Start by making sure you have the latest software updates. After that, go into your Applications, then Utilities and click on Disc Utility
Click on your drive then click on Repair Disk Permissions.

I hope this helps stop the freezing.

Apple Macbook pro beeps 3 times then freeze with I open Google drive app

First try clicking on your desktop, then Go menu (at the top of the screen), then Utilities, then double-click Disk Utility. Select your hard drive on the left, then you should be in the First Aid tab/pill on the right, then click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button (and restart for good measure when it's done). If it the only app that does this, maybe delete it and get the newest version?

Troubleshooting can be tedious and not usually one question/one answer; perhaps the easiest path to your fix is to backup your data (use Time Machine or just copy what you want to keep; if you don't have a drive, spend the $100 via Amazon slash dp slash B00CGUMS48).

Once you have your data, clean slate your Mac (boot to the system DVD or USB that came with your machine; or, you can just get Maverick (which you can download, but not install (leave in Applications), then connect a 8GB USB stick (Amazon B00DYQYJ3Q) that *doesn't* have data that your care about, then run a command in Terminal: sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ --volume /Volumes/THENAMEOFYOURUSBSTICKHERE --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ --nointeraction).

Hopefully makes sense, and clean slate may not fix (but should, just install the faulty app and run it); so, that would mean something like faulty memory (where a strong program might dip deep enough to manifest), but clean slate is a wonderful thing.

MacBook Pro 17"

THis is normal. It is based on the amount of CPU being used. If you are running a lot of apps or CPU intensive apps then it will run hot. If you use Cmd-space and type 'activity' you will select Activity Monitor from the list. In there you can see what is using the most CPU. (get back to me if you need more info on using this app). Playing videos uses quite a lot of cpu for decompression. Playing music doesnt. Check also howmany widgets you have open by pressing F12. Close them down by holding the alt key and clicking the x in the top left corner of each.

This should help you reduce the heat a bit. Also think of getting somthing like the iLap. I use this myself (using it right now infact) and it's pretty good.

All the best

Ne macbook pro locks up

Hey amandarx8,

That really is not quite enough information to go on. What version of the Mac OS are you using? What MS Office application are you trying to use? Are you running any other applications at the same time you are running the MS Office application? This info will help diagnose your problem.

But to answer your question, lock ups are NOT normal. Make sure you have downloaded and installed any updates from both Microsoft as well as Apple.
