Question about Sony KV-27FS16 27" TV

1 Answer

Our set was purchased in 2001. In the last month we've seen a narrow band (2") of parallel, "rippling" lines appear horizontally across the screen, just above mid screen. At first they went away a few minutes after the set was powered on. But now they come and go all the time. It happens on all channels. We get our reception via cable. Any suggestions?.

Hello
You are saying about vertical retrace lines. Thes lines will be thin and spread all over the screen at about 1 inch aprat or so, little slanted in position. There are mainly two reasons for this fault. One is vertical output Ic and its supply related. Second is related with increase in screen voltage.
You just open your TV,and adjust the screen voltage a little less, by the help of screen voltage adjuster reistor. It can be located on the picture tube base card, diretly soldered to it. If it helps no need to do anything. After adjusting the scren voltage, increse the brightness contol a little and see whether the lines are there or not. If not it is ok. If yes, you have to go to the vertical output section of your tv. Any screen voltage adjustment should be done after decresing the brightness, contrast and colour controls to its minimum. At this condition you will only see the display items only. Screen voltage is so much related to picture clarity. It must be done in a dark circustace.
If it doesn't help, that is even after the lines are there when you increase the brightness, locate the vertical output section of your TV. It will be normally on the main board, and there will be an ic for amplifying vertical sweep signals. If its supply voltage has some trouble, this type of fault may occur. As your Tv is abot ten years of age, it is quite natural, that most of the capacitors has gone value detained. It is best for you to change all the capacitors, at about 14 nos of them at the same time, as it will cost not much. Change all the capacitors around the vertical output ic is best, as you can't measure the exact value of capacitors, without a capacitance measuring meter. Also look for any bad, or loose soldering is ther to the pins of the vertical Ic. Resolder all the points around and with it by applying a little more solder. This will retify your problem. Ok

Hi, I purchased the same model in November 2009. About 2 weeks ago a single horizontal line appeared. Each day another appeared until today when the video went out. Now it displays bands of vertical colored lines like a pastel colored rainbow. Did you find a solution to the problem?

My 15 year old Toshiba Televisiononly shows a narrow horizontal band in the middle of the screen. Sound OK.

Hiii fairley,

You aren't specsificly dercribe yor tv set.
For common TV horizontal problem ;i.e : White line accross the horizontal screen, horizontal band,etc..it's can solved by replacing the IC Vertical/Transistor, and olso to replace the cap nearest the IC.

For common TV Vertical Problem :i.e : White line at the center of the screen (top to bottom),Vertical band,etc...It's can cure by Replacing the Horizontal IC/Transistor,and offcurse the cap's.

Tha's what all I know....

Hope can help you to solved the problem.

Thank's

Sony kdl-46xbr4 Black Horizontal Bands When I First Turn on TV

I had the exact same problem with the Sony KDL46XBR4. The problem started 11 months after I purchased the TV (Dec 2007). Luckily I placed the call to Sony just before the 1 year warranty expired and they replaced the entire front panel which is basically the whole TV except for the stand and the plastic frame. Last month the same issue started happening again (5 months since the repair). I called Sony and they say they have a 90 day warranty on the replacement part so I would need to pay out of my own pocket to first have the problem diagnosed (it's the EXACT same problem!) and then pay to have the repair done since the warranty has expired. I asked how much the front panel costs and it's $1,400! I paid $2,100 for the TV when I purchased it. Interestingly, at the time that part was back-ordered.....hmmmm, I wonder why??? Perhaps a recall is warranted here (no pun intended). Needless to say, I have sworn off Sony products due to their lack of support for this issue.

A reflection light has appeared on the Sagem Axium HD-D45

Yes. A thin horizontal line that is always on red, green, blue, black or white is almost certainly a bad line in the display. If you purchased the display new, you should be able to get it replaced under warranty.

I get horizontal lines on the screen that last from a few seconds to 15 minutes. Lots of little lines that take over the screen, you can't even use the menu. Best Buy says that there is no problem but I...

These intermitant lines are caused by a failing capacitor in the horizontal output circuit. I've seen this 100 times. The easiest and cheapest solution is to change out all the larger caps in your horizontal out put circuit. They are cheap and you will know you snagged the right on if you cange them all out. Watch the polarity though as this is important. They are clearly marked +/- so this should be no problem unless you are blind. Bad joke. You should be able to get them all for under twenty bucks, add a little elbow grease and your lines will be gone. The main reason you change them all is because it is hard to isolate the culprit when the problem is intermittant. And the second reason, you know they are all fresh. The capacitors job in the circuit is to filter out ripples in current. Eipples in current cause ripples in screen. Some sets employ a horizontal output IC, in this start by changing out the caps surrounding it. If you still have ripples swap out the IC.

Hope this points you in the right direction.
