Question about ASUS G50V-A1 Notebook

1 Answer

ASUS G50V (Windows Vista) - recent problem at startup. I have a couple toolbars at the bottom of the screen for my Word folders. These toolbars are opening at startup (as if I clicked the little >>icon. If I right click on the screen, another one opens and I can't do anything else. CTR-Alt-Del seems to stop this from happening, and I can open my browser as usual. One other thing I've noticed since this problem started is that when I power up the computer, I hear a faint clicking sound a few times (like an electrical short). Ran a spyware check and came up clean, also did a Disk Cleanup.

SOLUTION 1

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Set your computer to boot from DVD or CD in your BIOS.

Vista will ask you for language and keyboard layout information, after which you will be asked if you want to re-install Vista or repair your existing installation.
Select Repair. After which Vista's System Recovery Tool will start.

Select Startup Repair and let Vista do its thing! That really is all there is to it!

==========================
If that doesn't work try this:

SOLUTION 2

If the previous method does not resolve the problem, you can rebuild the BCD store by using the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment. To do this, follow these steps:

- Get your Vista installation DVD and pop it into your drive.
- Then restart your computer.
- Press a key when you are prompted.
- Select a language, a time, a currency, and a keyboard or another input method, and then click Next
- Click Repair your computer
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
- In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt
- Type bootrec /rebuildbcd and then press ENTER

• If Bootrec runs successfully, it will present you with the installation path of a Windows directory. To add the entry to the BCD store, type Yes . A confirmation message appears that indicates the entry was added successfully.

• If Bootrec cannot locate any missing Windows installations, you must remove the BCD store, and then you must re-create it. To do this, type the following commands in the order shown below: (Remember to press ENTER after each command)

bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

bootrec /rebuildbcd

- Restart the computer.

Asus computer freezing up

Windows vista is a large operational system that caused the very complaints that people were talking about and that is why window 7 came in because it is lighter and faster and takes less resources. But to address your problem sub out the ram memory one at a time to see if there is a difference, quite often reseating the ram will sometimes fix the problem.

Hello.. It is Very Possible that you have what is called a 'RECOVERY PARTITION', which has the rerecovery disk information installed on your Hard Drive. This eliminates having to use a CD. To access the Recovery Partition do the following: 1) Press F9 during Bootup. 2) Press [Enter] to Select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] 3) Read the 'ASUS Preload Wizard' screen and click NEXT. 4) Select Partition Option and click NEXT. 5) FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPLETE RECOVERY PROCESS. ***Visit www.asus.com for updated Drivers and Utilities***
GREAT LUCK TO YOU!!!

I wish to uninstall My Start toolbar and get rid of it a my homepage. Thank you.

To disable all unwanted start up items in vista, please follow the mentioned steps-

1. Click on the Vista start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.
windows_start_logo.gif 2. Type MSCONFIG in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the MSCONFIG program that appears in the search results.
vista_system_configuration.gif

Or, if you're already logged into Vista as an administrator, you may see a box asking you if you would like to continue.
admin_user_account_control.gif
4. Once you have successfully passed through Microsoft's User Account Control roadblock, Vista will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.
vista_msconfig.gif
4. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary, others are simply a waste of RAM.
vista_msconfig_startup_tab.gif
Please uncheck the ones that you don't want.

2- To change home page in Internet Explorer, please follow below mentioned steps-

1. Click on the Vista start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.
windows_start_logo.gif
2. Type inetcpl.cpl in search and hit Enter key.

3. Click on tools tab and select Internet options.

4. Click on General tab and select use blank under home page.

5. Click on apply and then OK.

The home page would be blank.

I get the message c:PROGRA~1MYWEBS`1ar.binM3PLUGIN.DLL when I start up Vista

That file belongs to the My Websearch toolbar, which is malware. If you have recently cleaned up your computer to remove malware, then a reference was left in Startup. If you have *not* recently cleaned up your computer, you need to do so.

I would suggest using Search and Destroy which you can get and use for free

I looked for drivers for Windows Vista, I'm assuming Vista autodetects the hardware.
