Question about HP 530 Notebook

1 Answer

I have an HP 530 Laptop and I have just replaced my dvd drive, but I cannot get the new drive to show up at all. I run windows 7 professional 32bit. Anyway, the drive will spin up with the dvd in it, but it won't play... It will eject, but there are no icons... help?

Ah, yea, but I can't remember what type to look under. Rather what the dvd is considered as. I know the keyboard, hard drive, monitor, mouse, etc. is, but forgot the dvd.

It probably will work to boot up your laptop but as the DVDROM is slightly different, you must install fresh drivers.
Drivers are available from HP online, you will need the part/model number of the DVDROM.
Hope this helps.

If you visit the HP web site after clicking "start", "control panel" then select "device manager"
go down the list until you get to "DVD/CDROM Drives"
Click on it and the type of drive will be listed. Then you can download the apropriate driver.
    Hope that helps.

Thing is the dvd/cdrom drives are not even listed under the device manager...

    That's why it doesn't work.
Check the BIOS is looking for a DVD ROM if it isn't adjust the settings, you may need help at this point and depending on the version of your BIOS will depend on how to navigate it. A quick check is to see if the computer can boot from the CD ROM. If it does, it is installed in the BIOS
If it is recognised try downloading a generic driver or better still, take a look at the drive and read the model number.
Try downloading the current driver for Windows 7 32bit and see if it works. You have nothing to lose at this point. If not, back up your files to a USB drive/stick and re install Win 7.
Hope that sorts out your problem.

HP 530 wont boot Windows 7 DVD

the 530 came with XP or vista,. never W7,
the HP support only supports those 2 OS, period.

F9 key boots to anything and DVD , the DVD-r is bad or the DVD drive is bad, why not boot to USB stick? if that works then the DVD is bad. (burned wrong or drive itself bad.see?

Tell us what media you are using? (WHO's from Where?)

tell us what you want to do:
1: run XP,Vista or W7, what?
if running XP or VISTA before, the F10 ( changed to F11 later)
F10 loads the OS fresh, off the working HDD, partition called the
HP recovery partition, this is how to get the 530 back as day one.

if you use a Microsoft media, it will be missing key HP drivers and will be missing all HP software. a fact.

again, where did you get your media.?
my guess, is you MADE it from DVD-R , right.?
using what ISO, from Microsoft or from HP?

using what method (I use Imgburn? free, and is best) ask how.

this PC is carbon dated at 2008, (1 more year of support left, hint)
be wise to download all the below so when HP deletes all this soon.
you have it.
or buy the HP media kit. and never need to ask for it again.
hp sells it. buy it. now. while still sold.

btw2, many DVD drives are bad, or need service or cleaning
and fail to read disks properly, for sure huge OS loads !

and when DVD does work , it takes 1/2 day to load windows
we use USB sticks today, that work all the time and run fast.
burn stick instead of the disk. and win.

we use RUFUS to burn the ISO to STICK. (ask, millions do)
then, F9 boot to the USB stuck called Udisk.
it boots fast and works. (at least installs fully)

if using MS, w7.iso, there is no guarantee it will work with all
drivers working on a 530.
you tell us...
the Microsoft w7 load will takes a license key ,
the bottom sticker on the 530 has COA sticker , for OEM XP or VISTA, (unstated by you)
only OEM Disks installs work with that sticker,
if you buy W7 , its called retail and can work if luckly , sans all HP software with it.

here is the official page. this works, every time.
but MS does not support it now, updates are dead. and more. at MS now. they ended it 3 years ago.. and Vista last month.
(yes, 1 patch was released for the In the news ciberattack)
