Have you downloaded SP3? That contains important data for the firmware as when XP was released WI FI was not in common use and not all the files are there.
If you have and followed the normal setting up instructions from the installation disk, I would doubt the integrity of the WI FI card. WI FI cards are available second hand on ebay for a small sum of money, so no great burden.
Hope that helps.

    Just a thought,

    No Wireless link.

Check the drivers, Go to Control panel,
select Device manager and browse the list for anything out of the
ordinary, like a sub menu at one side. Go into the sub menu and click
Refresh Driver and check for conflicts. Windows should be able to
    detect and fix conflicts.
If that is no good, go to the
manufacturers web site and download the lates drivers.

    Hope this helps.

Try going to: start>control panel>network and internet>network sharing center. In the left pane click; change adapter settings. You should see your wireless adapter here. Right click and click enable.

Wifi not enabled

I think you just need to install the driver provided by the vendor, it is on the CD
or the recovery disk/CD, everything is there
or you can try searching the driver from the support page according to the brand from internet

Installed XP Pro and system doesn't recognize network adapter

Hi,
Whenever you format a laptop, you always need to install the drivers for the chipset, audio, graphics, wifi, LAN etc
Click on this link and, from the drop down menu, choose pronet81266 for wifi and the LAN one at the bottom:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/aspire_t180.html
Install the chipset and the audio too. The one on the list that says ati is for your graphics card.

Fixya!

My acer aspire 5050's wifi doesnt work...

Please Check in device manager, is there any problem with the driver ?
if there is a problem with driver, try to download driver from www.acerpanam.com and install it.
if there isnot any problem, try to enable wireless from the switch (close to external audio port)
